Something really has to be done about the discipline problems and low graduation rate at this school
Westmer has been a good school over the years, but has lacked in quality teachers. Now don't get me wrong, there have been some very good, knowledgable teachers that really knew how to impart the most gleanable information to the students. (For those of you who may remember Mr. Ecker for biology/physiology/anatomy, Mrs. Mary White for geometry and chemistry, and Mrs. Eldridge for English and language arts at the high school level, and Ms. Tisor at the Jr. High level. Unfortunately, any time we got a teacher from outside the area who really 'knew their stuff', they didn't stay long because I'm sure they were way underpaid in our district. Most of the knowledge that I have retained can be accredited to those aforementioned teachers. Thank you, wherever you may be now! (Of course, due to lack of funds, most teachers have to double-duty as coaches as well.)
I think that yes the school is struggling but most of the teachers there are doing there best and the school is not a joke they just had to cut some things so they could provide other things for our kids and if weren't for the other schools (like aledo )we would want to [do] more sports and do other things and if it was not so hard to do good in school then more kids would go out for more things and if people would stop taking about and our school then we would do better in alot of things and we would feel better about us.
While I still feel that Westmer is struggling academically, Mr. Siegfried has made significant changes in the amount of fighting & bullying by students. This has been a serious problem at Westmer & until the students can show respect for themselves, fellow students and teachers they need the strong leadership and consequences for actions that Mr. Siegfried is providing. What we should be concerned about is what we can do to improve the school academically and develop respect among the students.
Westmer is a joke. The principal Andy Seigfried will look for any reason to expel or kick out a student. Many students have quit because of him in the two years he has been there.
