I can honestly say that LFHS has given me more opportunities than I could have dreamed for. Compared to my cook county suburbs, the educational program that I have here is great. The test scores are high, the AP and extracurriculars offered are fabulous, there is a diverse interest throughout the school, so it's not hard to find a group of kids that like to do what YOU do. People talk about the diversity issue, and out of my best friends, I have a few close white friends, and then a ton of Asian and African friends, it's NOT a problem. There is a student exchange program, so you can travel to the Netherlands or to China. It's great. Living in such a stable community offered me the classes, the teachers, the comfort, and the grades I would not have been able to get in ANY other public school.
I moved to Lake Forest in high school. It was extremely difficult to fit in here. The girls were mean. I had one friend my first entire year there and after that, only the 'outcasts' showed me any friendship. The education program here is terrific, but as a high school girl unable to make friends, it takes a toll on your personal and educational life. I would never send my daughter here.
This school is amazing, I just graduated and I feel as though I am completely prepared for college and life in general. The only thing that isn't great about that school is that there is absolutely no diversity. I can count the number of Black, Hispanic, Indian, and Asian people that are at LFHS on my fingers. Other than that, this school has so far given me the best four years of my life.
I would rate most of the academic programs high. I think there needs to be more input from teachers on student performances; instead of just posting grades, let parents know if student seems to be struggling with concepts - esp. at freshmen level. The extracurricular activity choices is terrific - every child can find a group with similar interests.
aside from being in a bubble, this school is all you could ask for.
