My daughter just went though this school and is now a freshman in all Honors classes at T. F. South. My son is a 6th grader in Track One Math and Reading (that is the equivalent of Honors). I have had no problems with the children at this school. My daughter was in choir last year and at the end of the school year the choir and all of the Memorial bands went to Gurnee, Illinois to compete against other mid western schools. Besides all of the awards the bands won, Memorial Junior High also won the Best Behaved School Award. Also, I have found the teachers to be caring, easy to talk to and competent. The problem with these comment sites is that the people commenting are usually the people that have a complaint. They are mad and it gives them somewhere to vent, which I can understand that it makes them feel better. The sad part is once they make their comment and submit it, it is on the site for years and could possibly frighten good families away from this school. The parents that are happy with the school generally tend to not make the effort to comment and that is a shame.

Had to transfer my daughter out of this GHETTO school!! The poor teachers in this school are not equipped to deal with the bullying, cussing and just plain disrespect of the students. My child had to WAIT 10 min after the bell rang EACH DAY for their teachers to get control of the class in order for it to begin...this was in most of her classes on the daily basis. Kids get "jumped" and harrassed because the parents or caregivers of these kids to NOT care about their kids, it is TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL...the school may look nice on the outside and the teachers sure put on a brave face during openhouse but DO NOT be fooled...all of the good kids are being shipped to area private schools, I ended up driving my child daily because they were AFRAID to take the bus. RUN AWAY....FAR AWAY...the police have to be are at designated areas like the library when school is dismissed because the kids get so out of control...check it out yourself at 3:15 m-f...I am NOT KIDDING!!

I only went to this school two years and it was living torture. The teachers are nice but even they are scared. The students have taken over the school and cuss and talk back to the teachers. Even when I got straight A's, it wasn't challenging. This could probably be from the students not letting the teachers be able to move on. All the students try and over do each other in rudeness. All they care about is looks and popularity. I feel terribly sorry for the teachers. They have no control over the classes. They don't get a chance. No matter how many students get detentions, referals, and even suspension, it doesn't stop them. The teachers are so afraid to look up, that some don't even notice a fight until five minutes after. There is pretty much at least five fights a month. There is just so many horrors to this school that I can't even remember them all. This school is the son of saten!

I am a student at memorial junior high school. This school was recently remodeled and is state of the art. The teachers are very willing to help out, with homework, tests, and any problems you may have with other students. The school is very organized and activites are well planned and executed. This school is a fantastic school and parents should be happy to send their kids there.

I love this schoo li am a 7th grader that moved here from chicago about 5 years ago and this is the greatest school ever. The teachers are all really nice when they can be and if they have to be mean they really stick it to you; even though this doesnt really happen much. The teahcers also help a lot, say you dont understand the simplest question ever theystop there class time and help you understand it. And the kids at my school really behave because of the monthly goals like being fight free for a month and when team a and team b make the goals we get a reward like an ice cream social or a free gym period. I highly recommened this school because it is great

I am a parent new to Lansing. I have a child at Memorial Junior High. Memorial's teachers and administration are very understanding and attentive anytime I have sent an email or phone call they have all been returned. All conference requests were honored and the children behave pretty much as you expect them to they are children. The staff and administration are very patient, understanding and genuine. I have had nothing but a positive exoierience dealing with the school and would recommend Memorial to anyone. Mrs. Blomquist the 7th grade assistant principal is awesome. She has infromed me of things that help me to better understand my 7th graders behavior.

It's nice looking now with the new building, but it is not run very well. The kids are un-informed, because the teachers are unwilling to help. Some of the teachers are nice, but shouldn't be teaching 7th graders.

I admit Memorial is not the best school, but you can't be too picky in Lansing. Im in high school now and looking back, im glad I moved from Cal City and went to memorial. I think parents are too harsh. Mr. Zimbleman is a great principal. Yea, there may be a lot of detentions and suspensions, but when i was there, everyone who got one, deserved one. I saw someone say something about racial tension. Theres racial tension at every school! Im at a Catholic college prep school and theres still racial tension. School is supposed to prepare you for the real world, the real world has racial tension, stop trying to shelter your kids! The teachers are great. You have a couple that arent so great, like at every school, but they care and they prepare you well for high school. BTW, the band is awesome! fantastic band director.
