Lemont High School recently decided that students/families must now pay to be involved in extracurricular activities-sports, cocurricular, everything except a few service clubs. Way to go LHS, you just made it more difficult for uninvolved students to become involved in activities, and also difficult for returning students to remain in the activities they once enjoyed. Students from lower income backgrounds will now have to choose between activities that they enjoy. This is not a way to foster creativity and a desire to try new things. LHS went from being a good school with great academics, wonderful teachers, and amazing extracurricular programs to being a place I would not want to choose over another school with similar academics. LHS's extracurricular programs just lost their recognition for being some of the best around this area. Nice move.

As a current student i enjoy Lemont High School...i love the teachers and they take time to make sure every student understands before moving on to the next topic. Extra curricular oppuntities are wonderful. I like the feel of a close knit school and this is where yoyu get that closeness

I am disappointed with some younger teachers who expect college level work and then abandon the students who can not keep up. The transportation available is terrible considering the numbers of single parents and dual working parents.

LHS has a variety of course offerings for students at all levels. There are honors and AP credit offerings in all core classes. All this included with small class sizes, and many extracurricular offerings including an outstanding music program. LHS also uses block scheduling which means students spend more time in the classroom with the teacher. I was skeptical of this every other day schedule but have found it has been the best environment for learning my children have ever had.

LHS is losing its personal character as the community grows. A mediocre, inexperienced faculty fumbles with only the most basic extra-curricular offerings. Course offerings are slim, and this school has some aversion to AP courses. Students are expected to be intellectually average, nothing more, and there are no consequences for those students who choose 'service projects' or other ridiculous course substitions instead of actual classes. All but the most miraculously gifted students are overlooked here, as the focus truly is on maintaining rather than surpassing some mysterious standard ('Mission Possible') that is evident only in the calm and civil behavior of the students as they sleepwalk through the interminable class periods.
