Copeland is a great school. My two children look forward to going to school each day and love their teachers. We really couldn't be happier.
My kids love this school. The teachers and Principal care about the kids from social to academic skills. The new lunch room stage area and classroom addition is great. It serves the kids well with two lunch times, one for 1st thru 3rd grade and one 4th and 5th grade. It is by far better than the old gym lunch set-up. It's also a great gathering place for meetings and school events. The programs at Copeland are second to none, thanks to all at Copeland.
Children who go to extra instrumental lesson during the day are often pulled out during a critical subject and are responsible to learn the material missed on their own. From child's and my own observation the lunchroom order is not maintained, it is VERY loud, chaotic, food thrown on the floor by children and the supervisors do not enforce rules or make the children responsible for picking up food they have thrown on the floor. The new addition of cafeteria/multipurpose room is too small and cannot adequately serve the parent population when there is an event, parents end up standing outside the new addition's door to attend the various meetings. The room does not adequately support the school's annual talent show by acts having to be excluded because of floor type and/or lack of space...it is TOO small! It is not big enough for assemblies either. The children are squashed and cannot see.
Copeland is a pehnomenal school with wonderful teachers and great down-to-earth families who live here because they value good education. Excellent teacher/student ratios and excellent offering of special classes during the school day. We've been especially happy with the bonus violin instruction our daughter receives at school each week. We also like the new 5th grade format where students rotate between classes. The building was recently expanded and remodeled providing a beautiful place for kids to learn.
We have two kids that go here and love the school. They're not perfect but they do a lot of things right and both of my kids look forward to going every day.
Copeland recently received an Academic Excellence Award from the Illinois State Board of Education after 90 % of students met or exceeded state standards in both reading and mathematics for the last three consecutive years on the Illinois Standards Achievement Tests (ISAT). Only 129 of the other 3,793 public Illinois elementary schools received this award Great teachers. Lots of family involvement My daughter is excited to go to school each day and show what she did in school when at home. And she is learning!
I am in agreement with principal's lack of leadership experience and ability to handle difficult situations. Teachers, for the most part, are well-qualified but they don't seem to know how to stand up to the administration when it comes to getting kids special ed help.
My child was welcomed with open arms by the caring staff at Copeland Manor Elementary School. The teachers work hard to create a nurturing learning atmosphere, and the students and parents have made our transition to Libertyville, Illinois extremely comfortable.
Fantastic neighborhood school with dedicated teachers, actively involved parents, and caring students.
While the teachers are kind and caring for the most part, the Principal, Nurse and Adminstration need revamping. The academics are sufferring because of the adminstration's lack of leadership. Once a highly recommended school in the district, for our gifted child, this school has become a disappointment. The bullying issues have increased as well which makes for an uncomfortable place for children and parents alike. We are saddened after 7 years of hard commitment and dedication to this school and district that we have choosen to leave. We hope that this District can address these issues so as not to lose more great families.
