I just attended the Jr High Awards/8th Grade graduation for this school. I realize that this is a small country school system and the fact that our state has not fulfilled its obligations to students & their futures in most of the schools. However, I am still appalled at the the lack of advanced opportunities available to students. My Granddaughters will soon be in the high school. After reviewing the course offerings, I find that should they continue to finish school in Spoon River Valley, their college opportunites will be very limited. Accellerated Advanced classes? Variety in class choices?? Opportunity to gain an Associates Degree while finishing high school?? I don't see it. Raise the test standards and compare to National Averages. To say you have some of the highest scores in the county doesn't say much for the county. Set the curriculum for higher achievement. Stop dummying down the classes. Raise your students to a higher level. Offer more and better - they deserve it.
