I am glad I sent my daughter to this small school as opposed to Morton, where I went. She had lots of opportunities to do many different things that you just can't do in a large school. She did quite well in high school and the same in college, so it seems consistent. I think a lot depends on how involved you encourage your child to be. It's all there for the taking. I believe all kids think they are unhappy in school. Even my daughter thought that. But after 7 years of college, she looks back and says that they were happy years. It's just a very emotional time in a child's life and difficult for teachers to deal with. Teachers are the same everywhere. There were good and bad. But this school provides a safer and happier atmosphere than most schools. Talk to the administration, faculty or even students. Go to some of the events. Some things are better than others. But if you want your child to have a chance to try different things, this might be a good opportunity.

If you're thinking about moving to this school district the best advice I can give is DON'T. If you have to have a meeting to talk about your child they tell you what you want to hear in order to keep you in the dark and make you think everything is going great. The special education director is a complete joke as is the special education program. It's not the teacher's fault but rather the director and program's fault. It's all about saving money. How many other superintendents do you know of that get an award for money saved within a distict? I understand that money has to be watched but not at the expense of a proper education. I'm not sure if anyone has ever researched the rankings for different schools but you should. The primary ranks 1341 out of 2524. The high school ranks 402 out of 644. The middle school 692 out of 1395. There are many other schools within the area that rank so much higher and some even in the top 10. I don't blame the teachers as it all starts with the adminstators. They put themselves above and before the students. If you are considering moving to the area, do yourself a favor and pass this one by!

I agree with the assessment of the new principal. However the teachers and support staff are another issue altogether. Inappropriate comments have been made to both myself and my 1st grader regarding our family. I attended Dee-Mack schools as well and the 'you're cool or you're uncool' mentality has not changed. Very sad.

The cirriculum in this school's primary grades has improved tremendously over the last two years. The new administrators,a principal (2nd year) and a reading specialist, are dedicated to improving the reading and writing skills of children at the K-3 level where it will impact their educational lives the most. Moral has improved as the 'older' teachers 'learn' new ways to make learning fun for the younger children. The school has recently undergone new additions and renovations, complete with air conditioning, a new junior high science lab (complete with an awesome teacher), safety cameras, and other improvements that tend to make the surroundings more condusive to learning. All things in this world considered, this is an excellent school and educationally, I would highly recommend it.

The Principal we currently have is on her 2nd year and she is great and making lots of good changes. I find her to be very understanding, concerned, and helpful to both students and parents. She really puts her all into the school and in my opinion has made it a wonderful place to be. The teachers on the other hand that were in place before the current Principal's arrival are lacking in skills, personality, and understanding. This is a small community and very clicky. The teachers that the school has been hiring over the past few years are from the past student body, which in my opinion is wrong. They come with their own preconceptions about students and parents based on their standing in the community. If you were a popular kid in school when they attended, then your kids are great, if not then your kids are dirt.
