Let me add to these thoughts. I also have a daughter in this school, and I'm pulling her out. I'll move if I have to. The teachers have been nice, when I was granted permission to speak to them. Yes, GRANTED permission to speak to them. The administration only let me speak to 2 teachers for a "short visit"; what I did get out of these visits is that the teachers fear for their jobs, their "new" principals (who were extremely rude to me) wouldn't listen when I told them about the fighting going on in this school between troubled students, the troubled students who need the most help are left for teachers to police them while having to teach their "nice" kids, no help from administrators, councellors, aides, no one. Even spoke to someone from the district who deals with special needs kids, and she basically told me, "It's being handled" and slammed the door. My daughter doesn't feel safe in this school, and was yelled at by the "assistant principal" AND the "principal" for being the last one to use the bathroom when THEY needed to "speak" to teachers. If things do not change, expect to hear from my lawyer.

I have 2 sons currently attending Matteson school. My oldest has went to Matteson from K-3 and has maintained high test scores and grades the entire time. The principle is very active with this kids and the parents are also very active in this school. My youngest son is in Kdg and is reading 2nd grade books. I love this school and wish my boys could be here through 8th grade.

This schools is terrible. My daughter was harrassed through out the year . The administration did nothing to stop it or even address it. The teacher could not speak proper english, much less teach it. There was no control in the class room. Due to these problems, my once bright eager-to-learn daughter dreads going to any school. I would recommend any parent moving into the district look at one of the many private schools in the area.

Although this school is facing a serious budget problem. No expense was spared in the quality of education the children receive her at matteson school. My son is in the second grade here and his teacher Ms. Elliot is great. Not only is the principle Ms. Fears is always active with the students the test scores speak for themselves. Great students and a great school.

Overall I feel that Matteson School is very good. They provide a wonderful learning environment for the children and my son has learned a lot in the 4 years that he has attended the school. The only problem that I have with the school is their grading scales. I understand setting higher standards for our children but when an 86% is considered a C I believe that is unfair and something needs to be done about it.

The teachers and staff are genuinely involved with the children and the parents. They have lots of activities and fun nights where they host reading or math games or pajama nights. My children love it here.
