I would highly suggest looking at other schools before sending your child here. There is no communication and I can not express enough how Turkish oriented this school is. It says it is mostly white kids. It is not at all! You can not have a well rounded child going to this school. There are not any programs for the kids to join that they enjoy and the teachers are not experienced enough. The principle only cares about money and is very offset and rude. Not a friendly place at all. Although the curriculum is good this is not the only thing kids need. You can be smart but if you can not communicate with others than it does not matter! It is beyond ridiculous how singled out people are and how uncomfortable it can be at times. The bus drivers talk on there phones while driving and are not very nice to the kids. They may think they are succeeding but word is traveling fast to stay away from this school if you want a bright future for you kids. There is now structure during parts of the day and the kids do not learn "why" they can not do things, the teachers do not care to explain these important things to them. Worse choice yet for more than just this one post can say!
My child attends SAC and we love it! In just half of a school year he has gained so much self confidence. His math is improving in leaps and bounds. My child interacts with classmates and teachers from all different backgrounds and this just enriches his experience. There are opportunities to socialize with other parents and staff. There are some bumps in the road here and there as the school always tries to improve services provided it is easy for me to overlook as the staff are committed and administration is receptive to our needs.
There is very high teacher and administration turnover at this school. My kids attended this school for four years and throughout those four years the school had three principal changes and almost 100% turnover with the teachers. The curriculum is lacking. The math and science program are advanced but language arts is very weak. The new school facility was poorly built and there are many construction defects, which is a concern from a safety standpoint. They tend to hire teachers from Turkey that don't speak very good English and some of the other teachers' credentials are questionable too. Rather than spending the money for tuition at SAC, you are better off doing some research to find a good public school district or a private school that has an established curriculum and stable administration staff.
We've been at Science academy for a couple of years. Before this school year we loved it, however, the organization that owns this school decided to change things that were not broken and took away an awesome principal. This new principal has no personality, doesn't even smile. He can't give you straight answers to any questions about clubs or bus service. Entire administration changed except for a volunteer parent who took over office management. Her smile and hugs reassures my children but the family feel and laughter is gone.
Amazing school! Science Academy of Chicago has been the best place for my daughter to learn and grow all eight years. For parents a great school means: fun learning - check; great teachers and stuff - check; clean and safe environment - big check; clubs and activities - colorful check; long school day - check for working parents; after school care - check. . In fact they have so much to offer students even parents like cooking classes, fun! It is like a big one family where every student is a favorite child. If you want your child to be a math wizard and scientist then you found your school. Thank you SAC for best experience!
I am a parent of two who will be in 1st and 4th grade next year. My daughters have been attending to Science Academy since PK. They love the environment, diversity, facility, and challenging curriculum. They are involved in many different extracurricular activities as well. they both have improved a lot academically and socially.
Friendly administration, small class sizes, diverse student body, top notch academics are only some of the things I like about Science Academy. I'm really happy my kids go here.
I love our school. This school has the best education, also it has a nice, family environment. My two girls love being in this school, so do I. Thanks to everyone who makes the school such a nice place.
This is the best school for my both children. My daughter goes to first grade and my son goes to prekindergarten. Everyday they learn something new. Teachers are like our family members. Thanks for everything you did for our children....
just love it, I see a huge difference in here. My son in second grade and doing 4th grade level math.
This school is great! The principal is always visible and responsive to the parents. The teachers and staff is dedicated. They care and love the students. Parent involvement is huge. I read the comments about donations. The people who wrote that the school is asking for extra money are all wrong! The donations are not mandatory. I bet those people who are complaining about donation/fundraising are the ones who did not give any extra cents to the school. Parent involvement is huge at the school. The school is Great overall! But it is not a school for special ed students for sure. Yet, the principal indicates that they do not have special ed staff and they cannot help special ed students. It is a high performing school with a challenging curriculum in science and math. My son is in second grade and doing the times table, and even division. They have a brand new building with a huge gym. I totally recommend the school.
I love this school. My daughter learned a lot in a year. The improvement in her academic level was amazing. Pros: Small class size, affordable price, kind staff, accelerated curriculum, diverse demographics Cons: The building in Niles was small and not efficient. But, they're moving to Mt. Prospect this year and if they can finish on time, the new building will be amazing.
SAC is without a doubt a great school. The principal cares immensely about each and every student. The faculty are dedicated and wonderful with the children. The kids want to come to school and have fun learning. I feel confident dropping our child off at SAC in the morning because I know she is in a safe, loving and caring environment. They make learning fun and encourage each child to be the best they can be. I love SAC and I think the faculty are remarkable!
My son is at the SAC and I feel that the school is an example of a high achieving school. It's a very caring environment with pressure and kids and parents to do their best. I believe my son is very fortunate to be there. The only thing I would like to see improve is I would like to see more Sports.
I agree with some of the recent postings that the administration and principal do a poor job of communicating with parents and does not,by any means, make parents feel welcome.Elementary education is a collaborative effort between parents, teachers and school administrators and the Principal,in particular, does not appear to support this type of collaboration. I don't feel that the kids are priority,MONEY is! Parents are welcomed and encouraged to come and be a part of the school...As long as you "Smile and Nod" at everything they do/say. The minute you bring up a concern, complaint or just simply question them on a certain topic a HUGE target is placed on your forehead labeling you as a "Problem Parent".What is most frustrating is the lies you are told time & time again in the hopes that, that will stop you from asking anymore questions. If that doesn't work intimidation is the next step.If you want to be involved in your child's education, if you are looking for a warm and caring environment for your child, this is not your school. Also there's no diversity in this school.Unfortunately,we are looking at alternatives at this point including other private school or moving districts.
We have three children at SAC , this is our third year. SAC has had the best communication we have ever experienced with taechers, staff and principle. Any concerns we have are listened to, and together we formulate plans to make things better. The teachers show they really care about your child. I hope prospective parents come visit the school, try a shadow day, and talk to parents currently at the school, to find out if SAC is right for them. Our curriculum is challanging, but the teachers go out of their way to make sure everybody learns with a smile on their face. SAC is part of our family!!!
I do not understand, I just posted a review, clicked on 5 stars and it only did 3!! But besides the problem here, the school is wonderful if I could give it more stars I would have!!!
My Daughter attends this School, the staff seem very caring and involed,She has always been a bright student, but when she has a problem with just about anything someone seems to notice and trys to help her, this is concerning her School work or mood, they just seem to know when she's having a problem. They are very caring.I have to really thank them for being there for her duing her teen yr's.She is always talking about how they care about her in general
This school is lacking in every department. If you want a good education for your kids do not send them here. There's little or no communication with parents. Most of the teachers shouldn't be teaching.Teachers don't care as much they need to. They disregard negative remarks and will not even respond to complaints. Teacher's assistants don't understand and can't speak English at all. It's very difficult for the kids to understand to follow them. This school asks for huge monetary contributions each year and wastes this money by giving prizes to people who are best in covering up all these school's information. It clearly doesn't meet the expectations and it won't help much in life.
Way to big lot of mean people. Teachers are very rough and do not connect at all with students. My child went there and was tormented. The class sizes are not small at all. Student Teacher Ratio is 18:1 and not 10:1 as promised by the principal and as stated in the school's website. No transportaion is available as promised in their website. No Advanced Math, Science and Technology Curriculum. No drama club or gifted programs for junior classes, as bluffed to many parents by the principal. Kids with delayed abililty are put in the same class with no extra teacher appointed for them. So the teacher has to pay all attention to them while if your kids is not in this category, don't get any guidance from the teacher at all. This school asks for extra money all year round on any pretext. It takes full tuition fee on the last month, but serves only half month. Principal wants fat donations and sell extra lottery tickets to the students' families and all lottery winners are all his own predetermined people. All of the teachers work here due to connections(parents, people of their community work here). They need to hire some real educators. We wish we never sent our kids to this school.
