For PRESCHOOL: I saw one teacher (an old lady in her 70s) hitting a child. For me most part, teachers are aloof. They fonction as if they were rendering a free social service: no interaction with parents, little involvement with kids, defensive. I once saw a little boy hit my child. I reported it on the spot to the "teacher". She blatantly denied the fact, and that nothing happened. The director never (literally) smiles. I took my child out of there and took her to Montessori. And that was an excellent decision.
THE SCHOOL: I had two children in the primary school. It was pretty good and they loved their teachers. The school principal is excellent! He is very involved.
This rating is for the PRESCHOOL only. They need a new director for the preschool. It is not being run well. Not sure what the credentials are for the "teachers" of the 3 year old class but they are the most uninvolved teachers for 3 year old's we have ever seen. There is absolutely no learning and they give you no report of what your child did throughout the day or how they did. We have never seen the teachers do any major interaction with the children. They are usually drinking their coffees with their eyes half open as the kids enter the class. It's unfortunate and pretty pathetic behavior from teachers. Also, the director (she is a lady in her 70s) is very defensive if you try and approach her with any issue and she does not have a good demeanor with the parents.
I Have 2 kids at Calvary, that actually is located in Naperville, IL. Both of them started in 1st grade. My son now is in the 2nd grade and my daughter 5th grade. The school has an excellent academic level and the Christian foundation is wonderful. Teachers and staff are really good! I highly recommend!
I had 4 kids go thru CCS and all the way through college they were told how phenomenally they were prepared in every area. Grammar and literature far beyond the public system and accelerated math combined with powerful Christian doctrine. So glad we invested the time and money in this school!
I have been looking into this school over a year for my child. And when the day came to get started with pre-testing,registration and etc. My husband and I were discouraged and baffled to have had a horriable experience with the kindergarten teacher. I was told that my child in so many words was not good enough to attend Calvery Christian Center school. My husband and I want our children to attend a christian school. But This is a learning experience for us. That just becasue it says christian does not mean that. I can not beleive what has happened to us. My child was pre-judged and put down like she was a dog. Shame on this teacher and the school. John 3:16
My daughter is in 3rd grade and this school has exceeded my expectations. She is reading at a 6th grade level. They have caring teachers and welcoming environment. We like the religious education but it's not overly strict. The school is very organized and professional.
"The preschool is horrible! Do not send your child here" I Totally AGREE with the previous parent's review. All I can tell you : I will never send my kid to Calvary Christian School for preschool , and never Recommend anyone to go there,, NO NO NO NO NO....
Calvary is an excellent school for parents that like small class sizes and nurturning teachers. The school has an accelerated reading program which helped my daughter increase her reading level 2 grade levels in one year. Parents are very involved too.
