Under the new leadership, this school is fantastic. Cannot say enough good. The new principal has a vision, is laid back, yet completely on top of the common core standards and additional state of the art programs for our kids. He is fantastic with parents and addresses concerns immediately and professionally. Fabulous school. Fabulous leadership.
Poor communication from teachers and staff. Arrogant in every way imaginable. Too slow to realize they a second rate operation.
There are some great teachers at Fry. If you are lucky enough to get them life is great. Overall, the school is too large to accomodate the needs of my children. The bullying is a big problem. Administration's hands seem to be tied when holding a bully accountable, and it ruins it for everyone else. Good job to the teachers who really care and work hard!
Fry has become a large factory over the past years and this results in non-inclusive environment. Class sizes of 27 first grade students are the norm. The environment is extremely competitive and it has become nearly an obligation to enroll your child in math tutoring in order for him or her to keep up with peers in class. The principal and support staff are not responsive to parents and have a rather arrogant behavior. The school sends out an enrollment questionnaire asking parents for the names of children they do not want their sons/daughter to be in class with; rather than ensuring that an inclusive environment is created where occasional problems are discussed with all parties concerned and solved. Fry has become the victim of its own success and is going downhill big time.
i completely agree with the reviews , it is a good school if your child is doing exceptional well, if your child is average..good luck!! teachers have very little understanding about the age and the diffrent ways in which each child learns and makes progress. the teachers have super expectations from the kids and some kids are working so hard to achive the pleasure of the teacher . the teachers dont encourage the kids enough. as a parent it is very frustrating when you hear mostly negatives about your child and little hope even for smallest shortcomings. i agree it is 'critiacl ' to be critical about the student but no so much that you forget to encourage them as well.
Fry is a wonderful school. The only negatives are really a result of the high expectations of the parents. The bar is very high for the kids and the teachers. In the big picture, most children would be very lucky to go to school here.
I am a parent of a child who was accused of 'bullying' by a parent. We tried to explain that our child was not in school during this time since he had surgery. She didn't want to listen and told us she had contacted the school and told them he was a bully! So, we contacted the school right away and talked with the assistant principal. After the investigation by the school they found out that he was not only NOT being a bully but was actually the victim. The Principal was actually present when this child and 2 other students started in on my child. They immediately called in the other parents and took care of the situation right away. I was impressed on how they handled this situation. They were caring and very pleasant and concerned for all involved.
The previous 2 reviewers speak the truth. Fry is an incredible experience if your child is a self-motivated, completely compliant student who loves to excel. But keep in mind that the incredible experience your child will have will be ACADEMICALLY great. The policies (or lack thereof) of dealing with aggressive/abusive students leaves MUCH to be desired. If your child has a great teacher that knows how to deal with issues, you're golden, otherwise you can forget about the principal doing anything. Also, if your child is an average learner, chances are they will feel that they don't 'fit in'. Having several children in this school, one who loves to excel and others that are average learners, I see the difference in their experiences and it is a NIGHT and DAY difference! Not a warm fuzzy environment for sure. Administration is pretty standoffish and unresponsive with parental concerns.
If your student is a good, compliant student - this school will be awesome, enriching experience. Good luck if your child is average or below average.
Horrible policy towards handling absuive students, lack of communication and they take kids outside all the way down to ZERO degrees. Not a healthy enviroment. If you complain they remember you and make that quite clear...almost as if they are saying shut up and deal with or poor policies. Principal appears to be too busy to be bothered with going to most recent PTA meeting and doesnt seem to think she should respond to parents concerns. Student 'counselor' who mediates problems appears to handle problems in a very impatient way...actually walked away while I consoled my daughter as if I was taking to long in the hall way to convince my 5 year old she need to go to class after she arrived late. I was told on several occasions I should put my concerns in writing....a sad testament to the 35k in taxes I paid.
Just a few negatives - no air conditioning for hot humid days, political PTA, didn't know of any after school activities, and lack of discipline (not necessarily the school's fault). Positives included the teachers, gym three days a week for needed exercise especially in the winter, and academic content. The academic content included a variety of topics to make school more fun. Overall a good school.
High quality education in a structured and nurturing environment. The staff and administration truly care about the students. It is a very positive environment where high morale values are strived for daily. They use the 4 R's, Respect Yourself, Respect Others, Respect Property, and Be Ready. There is a high level of parent activity. We have special events throughout the year. It's a really happy environment for children. They have a program for gifted and talented students, additional enrichment both in and out of the classroom, as well as improvement programs. My kids have absolutely thrived in this environment. Highly recommended!
We have been thrilled with the quality of this school. Every teacher we've had has surpassed our expectations. The art and music departments are very good, and there are so many parents at the school on any given day! It's wonderful!
We have lived all over the country and by far Fry Elementary surpasses any school. Fry is more than a school it is a community of people who come to- gether with one common goal, our kids. Parental involvement A+, tchrs A+,progrms A+, It is the best!
