My son attended Jewel for 7 months. During that time he was bullied, as a mother was led to believe that the teachers and administration would help...they did not. The Principal was rarely to be found, the superintended never return my calls, and my son was left to defend himself day in day out. Shame on you. I removed my son for his safety, sanity, and education...I just hope it's not to late.
Jewel school has a wonderful, caring staff. The teachers are willing to come in early, stay late to help struggling kids. The Principal, Mr Scalia, really cares about the kids and stands up for them to try to give them all he can to help them get a good education. VOTE FOR JEWEL JAGUARS!
The school has excellent caring teachers, lots of extracurricular activities to help keep the students engaged in school and a dedication to recognizing the needs of each student.
My son graduated from Jewel in June. The teachers are top-notch and they care about their students. Actually every West Aurora school district school my son attended had some great teachers. My son also made life-long friends at these schools. I'm not sure what the person below is talking about as far as his vision of the culture at Jewel because we've never seen it and my son has never seen it.
Jewel middle school is a neat and wonderful school . I am so happy I got singed in that school.
I love this school. Great educational program!
We have been very disappointed in the educational program at Gary D. Jewel Middle School. We moved to Illinois from Pennsylvania prior to the 2003-2004 School Year. Our son, who is a special needs student, had a very difficult time with the transition due in part to the many social distraction at the school. The culture at Jewel emphasizes boys having pierced ears, wearing low slung jeans and experimenting with sex and drugs. While many schools have these issues, it has become a concern to us due to the lack of attention they are given at Jewel. The lax attitude of the administration and faculty regarding these matters and the lack of attention given to transitioning students has resulted in an environment of failure for our son. While we do hold him responsible for the choices he has made, the school too is responsible for the absence of education received.
