I feel glad to find a school that was able to help me in all the different challenges that as a military family we have. I definitively recommend Greenbay Elementary School, because as a parent I feel the school fill high expectations
I have visited GreenBay School and found the school to be warm and inviting. I realize the district is in a turnaround situation and faculty members expectations are being addressed and resources provided for student and staff. The principal is working hard to address the public perception, instructional practices utilized by teachers and she is working individually with teachers who are yellars and reviewing lesson plans to ensure students are provided qualitiy instruction. The road to being better and improving a situation that has been accepted is long, but she is willing to committ the time and resources.
We moved here from Virginia Beach, Due to military, and my son is attending this school for 1st grade. The principal is Not a principal, we attended an event that the school held and the principal was too busy talking on her cell phone to even greet the parents and even let the door close on us as she cut in front of us and walked into the school. My sons teacher seems to do just what she is required to do, and nothing more. The school curriculum seems to be so far behind, my son would finish his work and find himself so bored. His Teacher does not try to communicate with the parents no matter how much you try to communicate with the teacher.
We moved from Florida to North Chicago because of a military transfer. At the time of our move Greenbay was our only option all the other schools were full because it was the middle of the school year. My daughter was in tears daily because her teacher was such a yeller and my son was so bored he hated going. It seemed to me that several of the staff members tried to help us but due to the lack of resources and lack of involvement they can only do so much. We got through the school year and moved to Lindenhurst for our remaining time here in northern Illinois. We are much happier now.
Our children started school there and excelled! We have lived in Georgia and the foundation laid by Mr Dorsey, Mr McDerrmont, and the staff has yielded big dividends for our children. Two of our children were in the TAG program, and the third would have been had we stayed.
My son really excelled at this school. Now I can't speak for the whole school, but I do know his teacher helped him out a lot. I saw tremendous improvement in him.
I feel that the quality of academic programs only meets what they MUST, they do not go above and beyond. they have no air conditioning in the summer (only in the admin office) and in the winter my children have to wear sweaters so they are not cold.children that have academic problems are let go too long before help is offered .
i found that this school was not very forth coming with positive feedback, but expected a lot from the parents...my child's teacher was a screamer and over little things, they let my child leave the school grounds before i could get there to pick him up he had walk 3/4 of the way home, it was noted on his enrolment form he was to be PICKED UP BY PARENT AT ALL TIMES i was furious to say the least. Then things went from bad to worse and everyday i dropped him off i would feel guilty, i would never leave him there by himself in the mornings i would wait till his teacher came out to take the kids into class he was in the first grade.
this school i felt was poor when it came to teacher involvment. did have a good music program that my child enjoyed. My childs teacher was a yeller and it made me sad to know he was there for most of the day having to listen to it all the time. My child is very bright and found the classroom very diruptive and kaotic to say the least. I would drop of stuff during the day and the teacher would be yelling door open or closed it didn't matter. parental involvment was low and that was sad...i went on an excursion and the teacher didn't have very good control of the class not know what they were doing and was too busy being with the students that were listening. my child was in the 1st grade and i swear he will be not going back next year.
