We moved from this school last year after 3 yrs. On the whole, it was mediocre, the Scott AFB schools are better. The school gets an incredible amount of funding for military families, yet there are no support programs available to military children (counseling, buddy programs, etc.). Many teachers are excellent. The principal/some local teachers have been around too long; they have no motivation for positive change, unwelcoming to new families and give the feeling that its just a job, with no genuine concern for the kids. There's better options than Hinchcliffe.
I grew up in an open concept school do this style was familiar to me. I am still amazed when I come visit my daughter how quiet it is despite their bring no walls in the classroom. There is such a mutual respect for one another and the kids are learning that at an early age. I am really happy with the teachers and staff, great communication on both ends.
We are sad to leave! Hinchcliffe, despite it's open classroom design, has been a wonderful learning place for both of my children. The teachers and principal are among the best we've encountered in our travels. As a parent who was heavily involved in the PTO at Hinchcliffe, I appreciated all the efforts made at every level of the school staff. They welcome everyone who comes through their doors and are genuinely concerned with every students well-being. Whether it be academic, social or emotional. They have staff their for all your childs needs! My children are very sad to leave! It's been a wonderful 3 years!
Outstanding principal and teachers. My daughter is actually looking forward to going back to school this year.
Hinchcliffe does a great job with a somewhat mixed student population. There are several special education programs that provide a lot of (appropriate) inclusion with regular ed classes. The teachers and administrators are sensitive to the family circumstances and varying needs of each student. Class sizes are small. The main downside of the school is the open classroom area design which prohibits some group collaboration because of noise concerns. Students are fairly well-disciplined as a result, however, and do not seem to be affected by the limitation.
