Chippewa is a great school. The principal is a great leader and very dedicated to the safety and concern of all her students. The teachers are wonderful as well. There is great communication between the school and the parents.

In response to the previous comment of June 2003, I have a child with special needs and he is taken care of extremely well. As for being in an inclusive class, we feel that this is the best thing for children with Learning disabilities or difficulties, they are not singled out and are treated like any other student.

We like to pretend there are no problems; we are good at hiding things. Administrators do not respond to parental concerns consistently and the gifted program is more important and visible than those with less obvious special needs; those children are buried in inclusive classrooms.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Illinois used the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in reading and math, and in grades 4 and 7 in science. The ISAT is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Illinois. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.
