It is very interesting to me that most of the negative posts of this website have been dated in the last two years. It also is ironic that the administration change at PCS also occurred at this time as well. I believe that this school (association, board, etc,) needs to put two and two together!! Change is in order!!!
No other place I would send my child. My child is coming to school not only to get a great education but to grow in their knowledge of Jesus Christ. To me there is no greater joy. There is no price tag for what that is worth in the heart of my child! LOVE THIS PLACE!
As a former student (9 years) I can tell you that if you are reading this and are trying to come to a decision about whether or not this would be a good school for your son/daughter, I would vehemently WARN you that it is not. As noted by other reviewers, the cliques are still a problem. Since I went to the school over a decade ago, it seems that this is a problem that won't change. I feel that part of this comes from the small class sizes-- you are stuck with the same group of about 70 for years. Their opinion of you sticks, and if you are not part of the cool group of people to begin with then be prepared to be shunned/ignored. As far as quality of education...I can tell you with 100% confidence that I have a much broader educational background than those who graduated high school from PCS. I know this from talking with former classmates who continued there through high school. The quality of teaching is spotty at best. In short, I had a hard time growing up in this type of environment. If you are deciding to send your child to this school, please consider this: your child has a much greater chance of peer acceptance as well as a broader knowledge base by attending public school.
Peoria Christian does show special attention to the wealthy contributors and those they judge "more worthy" according to their own personal standards. our child was bullied, which was first of all, never taken seriously, then victimized and betrayed by the very staff of adults who were supposed to be there to protect. the only one protected here was the bully and elitist family. Our child suffered deeply from this betrayal and is now afraid of teachers and principals because she was punished for being bullied. the staff dodged, lied and manipulated to protect themselves and the bully, and you call this "Christian, and Godly Love. How dare you wear his name and treat a very small, good child in such a way? shame on all who were involved and allowed our child to be victimized and traumatized to protect your personal agenda, and for this we were paying about 6,000 a year! We had some very good years and some very bad . Beware of the welcomed parental involvement. to some in charge, this really means volunteer, give your money, and keep your mouth shut to most everything else. So so sad because there are many good folks and teachers there.
Experienced major bullying issues, school didn't want to respond to my numerous requests for actions. Also, I put in close to 1,000 service hours for the school, often being at school until 11 PM many nights, and the school denied any service hours because I had performed them at school. PCS is not a christlike school. I had a science teacher that would continuously yell at students. And if you didn't believe the Earth is exactly 3,000 years old, you were going to be in deep trouble.
YOUR JUDGMENT DAY WILL COME!! My child attend PCS and we did have a great experience until third grade when he was bullied. Involving the principal & everyone higher we kept hearing the same words "WE DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH BULLIES!" This went on for many years before making the change and praying that things will get better. Not only did we get bullied by the children but from the teachers parents and the administration. As a Christian school they do NOT show Christ like Values! I do agree with what others have posted about if your child has any differences or issues they are SHUNNED. My child decided to make a change and go to a public school which greatly saddened me and still does. But to tell you the truth it was the best thing that we ever did. I have found more Christ like actions in the public school than I did at PCS! If you are going to state that you are a Christ like school you need to make sure that all that are involved from the child to the parents feel that all things are handled in a Christ like way.Our family has recovered from the bulling that was dealt out on a constant basis but it took a long time for any of us to trust someone outside of our lives. WWJD?
I'll agree with "I can tell by the atmosphere" and "I was a student..for 9 years". If your child has any disabilities, whether learning or physical, he/she will not be made to feel welcome there. We know of families who have experienced both, and have left the school because PCS will not cater to such individuals. Seems rather hypocritical since isn't this the way God created these children? And yes, there are MANY cliques. As my child once stated, "It's hard to believe it's a Christian school, because it's no different than the public schools in the area." I wholeheartedly agree. Unless you are in a certain income bracket, or give a certain amount to the school, you and your child will have a hard time fitting in. As observed by many ex-attendees, as well as outsiders looking in, it just seems like a big country club. It only exemplifies Christ up to a certain point. The grade school is best, then declines steadily as the years go on. We had a child who was stalked and threatened while in this school, and the administration deceived us by telling us our child would be protected by certain measures that, in the end, were never instituted. Sadly, t's not the school it used to be.
I can tell by the atmosphere that this probably is a great school, and really wanted this for my son. After going to a private school myself I thought I was the best way for my son to learn the. word of God. However we did not have a great experience. If your child does not fit a "mold" they want him/her to they will not be accepted. After the FIRST week of school we were told "they were not equipped" to handle my son, but they'd give him one month. Needless to say...if they were not going to give my son a chance, his Mommy was going to find someone who would.
Peoria Christian School is a great school. All the teacher ARE state certified (unlike a previous post mentioned) and are excellent in incorporating a biblical worldview into the classroom as well as challenging the students academically. The school's academics are superb, winning the Blue Ribbon Award and the ACT Red Quill award with a high school average ACT score of 24.0 for over 10 years! My kids have been there since preschool and now the oldest is in high school. If you want an excellent school, with teachers who care, this is the school for you.
I was a student at PCS for 9 years and at about third grade girls began to become girls (stuck-up). I loved PCS but overall if you are worried about friendship, then you will want to know that PCS has cliques.Cliques can and do exclude people, they excluded me, i left PCS only because of the clique problem, students there tend not to forget anything from the past which will affect everything. I love PCS but I have to tell the truth, PCS is full of cliques, it will be extremely hard for anyone in the grades 4th and up to be accepted. although many people are nice, eventually there will be problems, i started to not focus on schoolwork because of the cliques, it felt like i didn't belong. I'd decided to go to another school completely by myself. Yes, the academic side of the school is beyond words (good words...) but keep in mind if you are looking to enter your child in the grades 4th or up they will have social problems. Otherwise PCS is great.
PCS is truely a Christ centered school that provides top notch education while prepaing each individual student for a successful future. The staff surrounds students to provide them a learning environment which is loving, safe, encouraging, challenging, and fun.
PCS has been a huge blessing not only to our daughter, but our whole family!
Our grandsons are in 1st, 3rd and 5th grades and the youngst will be attending soon. We have been so pleased with their academic achievements as well as the Christian environment in which to learn and to have teachers who care for their total well-being. It is also nice for the parents to be able to become friends of other parents with similar values and religious beliefs for their children. Also pretty nice for prayers to be allowed and encouraged in the schools. The programs provided for the children are done so well and are such a pleasure to attend. We always leave feeling encouraged and happy that PCS is their school of choice.
Provides great private Christian education based on solid values and principals
PCS is an amazing school with an excellent staff & safe Christian environment where my girls thrive and learn everyday.
The encouraging and caring environment is top on my list. The teachers that work at pcs do it for the love of the lord, the children and teaching, outstanding staff!! although no school is perfect pcs has been a wonderful educational experience for both of my children. Our family has attended for upwards of 9 years.
Peoria Christian is am amazing school. The teachers are so well-syncronized in what they do that it is an easy transition for the students from one grade to the next. We have only experienced the elementary so far, but I would rate the elementary as top-notch. The dedication of the entire staff is commendable, and their efforts to provide a strong and updated curriculum that is relative to the students is wonderful. The school provides a loving, Christian environment. Our children have thrived at PCS and know that they are loved by their teachers. The students are also given lots of opportunities to participate in extra activities like drawing classes, drama classes, speech meet, science fair and spelling bees. We are very pleased with the education our children have received at Peoria Christian School!
My daughter attended Peoria Christian School from Pre-K to 2nd grade. We are moving out of state and wish we could find a school just like it! Academics are great, everything is wonderful. Loving environment. I highly, highly recommend this school!
Excellent and caring staff and leadership. The school has a great academic program. Parents are involved in the school. School teaches children to excel and follow Christ.
