I couldn't ask for a better school than PORTA. I am a student and have been attending PORTA school district since second grade. I love the athletics program and just sheer school spirit! I do have to admit it has it's flaws like every school does. PORTA is my home and I would never want to leave it.

I hated Junior High here. Teachers choose favorites.

I agree PORTA is very 'Cliquish'. Especialy in volleyball there has been teams such as Ambush were the mother of a girl excluded everybody but her friends. Girl Drama is at an all time high if you have a daughter in 7th, 4th, or 3rd grade you better hope to god shes got a strong self estime. The teachers are nice but there are a few who pick favorites and forget about the rest. The Cross Country program is amazing. So if you want to move to porta its a great school but you,ve been warned.

We took our children out of PORTA due to the lack of discipline and lack of educational opportunities. There is no such thing as an AP or Honors course in the PORTA system. I have been absolutely amazed by the foul mouths of the students...in front of teachers who do absolutely nothing about it! From what I have seen over the last few years-more and more people may be moving to Petersburg, but they are sending their children to private schools in Springfield.

In my opinion, PORTA is a terrific school. My student is very involved in her school and the teachers, administrators, and coaches have been very benifitial in helpin her organize her overwhelming schedule. If you are looking for a school in this district i highly recomend checking PORTA out. This school could be great for your child.

If your child is not in to a sport or club and/or does not have a 'name' to fall back on. He/she really doesn't have a shot at being treated fairly, and all you get is the run-a-round. They can get bullied alot and sadly the teachers and administration will side with the more popular student most of the time. Also heaven forbid if your child is not a honor roll student, don't ask for help that only gets them treated worse. You can not contact the principal by e-mail and most of the teachers will not respond to any e-mails or requests. (there are 2-3 that do some times but they are in the minority). The parking lot behavior is horrible, but the VP and teachers just stand out there and watch it happen. The police won't help I've asked. I'd change in a heartbeat if I had a choice!
