Love the teachers!! My Daughter has been there 3 years and just loves it. It makes me feel good , seeing how much she loves school. I can't believe she is reading 3 levels ahead. Everyone is so friendly and inviting. I love this school.
My granddaughter is completing her second year at Poplar Grove. She has experienced ongoing bullying by a much larger girl in her class. This has included punching, kicking, hitting and pinching in addition to name calling. Her classroom teacher has told my granddaughter that she does not want to hear about the abusive girl's behavior; the principal refuses to intervene as well. The gym teacher calls the children names and curses at them. Our family's experience has been extremely disappointing! Due to ongoing safety concerns and low performance expectations, we are looking at other options for next school year.
My son has been going to this school for two years (K &1st) and both teachers really seem like they want to help out, but both have replied to concerns that I have voiced by saying they have 23 plus other students to worry about and that sometimes things slip through the cracks. I have had safety concerns that I have brought before the Principle and she has turned a deaf ear on them. My son almost got ran over in the parking lot because of the way she has the traffic going. Its sad when there is not enough money to hire more teachers, but the principle who does nothing at this school is making over $100,000.
I dislike this school very much. If your child has a learning disability don't send them here! They don't have the means or the desire to meet the IEP recommendations for achievement.
This school is excellent. My son is in 2nd grade and reads at a 5th grade level. He has excelled in every class.
I am totally impressed with the teachers at this school! they go out of there way to make the children feel special in every thing they do. At this school, kids come first, which is so hard to find in other school districts in illinois. I love this school as much as my son does!!
I think this school is wonderful, I was nervous about moving into a small town, my children have excelled tremendously here. The teachers are wonderful. My youngest son who I thought would have so much trouble in school is actually reading above his class. I'm excited about this school and everything it has to offer my children.
