Keep in mind I'm a student at this school : Teachers are decent at their job, but when it comes to the kids, if you don't have money, or aren't good at sports, be prepared to be left out of almost everything. The school is filled with pot heads who absolutely don't care. Lunches suck because everything was taken away from us, we are down to a small tray of food and a small cookie if we are lucky. And the requirements of passing high school are ridiculous. You HAVE to have a total of 40 hours of community service (totally possible, but not what Id like to do after school, or for any other kid.) The desks are so outdated they're older than me, at least 20-25 years old. Full of carvings and writing. The books are a good 10 years old, completely outdated. You'd think a school would understand that a parent doesn't want to fork out $250 or more for books that aren't even up to date. But the school would rather pay money to have the 7/8 graders moved to the other side of the school. All in all this school is ok. I disagree with the 9/10 rating. I'd give it a 5/10.

Can't beat it. There is much to say about student / teach ratio and the extra care provided by teachers aids. So glad my kids are going to this school.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Illinois used the Prairie State Achievement Examination (PSAE) to test students in grade 11 in reading, math and science. The PSAE is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Illinois. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
