I attended this school for all four years of high school and, after talking to students from other schools and comparing how I've done in university compared to others in the state, I have to say that I lucked out into going to this high school. While it's not perfect (it needs some work in the fine-arts department) most of the teachers are really good and they do a great job of preparing us students for the future. My biggest complaint would be how overly strict it got over the years I was there. ID's were required to be worn around the neck and it was enforced to an almost ridiculous degree despite being in an environment where almost all the teachers know who you are in the first year.
Everyone is friendly. Teachers are awesome. Loved high school. My high school experience was one of my favorite parts of my life thus far. I wish i could go back. Great teaches. Great Sports.
Old boys way of running a school, poor leadership, average teachers, average academic programs, lack of sports or clubs
Great teachers and administration, safe, welcoming enviornment.
This school has consistently finished in the top 5 in the state of Illinois Math & Science competitions and has won the top spot. My children have gone on to the University of Illinois Champaign and Carthage College and excelled. I feel this school has prepared my children well both educationally and from a character stand point. The administration has always been fair and the teachers go out of their way to help students who ask for assistance. This school is located in a growing small town and has the support of generations of alumni. We could expand our music and fine arts program.
Not much here to see at this school. Sports teams are usually in last place the past few years; kids don't seem to want to play. Administration needs to step up and take charge. Pretty good science department. School curriculum is unorganized, segmented, and incomplete. Some teachers enforce school rules others let things go. Very tough place to work if you thrive in an organized environment.
This gives insight to the overall atmosphere and quality of education at this school. It's a mediocre school with mediocre teachers that don't embrace excellence. Philosophy of individuality isn't encouraged, at a time when teens develop stronger individual interests. I stayed four years using my strength of character & perserverance. Ending, I considered the ultimate sacrifice, teaching one last lesson;
Coming from a good school district in the NW suburbs, this school is way below my expectations. The administration seems friendly on the surface, the school has a newer exterior apperance, but the insides are in the stone ages. It is physically safe, mentally straining. The administration is unjust, inconsistent and shows favoritism. Extracurriculars in sports are there, but there is little student ivolvement in the sports, only enough players for varsity teams for most sports. Kids are more involved in jobs outside school. Some parents are involoved, but to a lesser degree. Many teachers are young, inexperienced, and lackluster. The experienced ones seem to be just waiting for retirement. There are a few teachers that are bright and shining stars at this school, but not enough. Little variety. Some technology. Very 'old-school.'
