I had a daughter that went there and now a son and they both enjoy the learning there. Teachers are nice and work well with both the special needs and accelerated students.

I went to RESA from 1999 until 2002, and I had an acceptable experience there. For a middle school, it had really good resources (of course, this was several years ago and this could have changed by now). The teachers were hit-and-miss, but I had some truly great ones there. There were occasional times where I felt the other students posed a threat and were uncontrollable, but that's the nature of going to school on the west side of Rockford. I made some great friends there and excelled academically. I graduated from the top of my class in college and I'm now enrolled in a top-25 law school on full scholarship - obviously RESA did not ruin me academically.

RESA was awful 5 bad teachers for every 1 good one, I went there 6th to 8th grade and I am now at a private school and the difference is unbelievable, if your sending a child to the rockford schools private is the only way to go.

RESA was a horrible experience!! The teachers cared nothing about education and focused on harsh discipline. Whenever I had an issue with a teacher It was never handled. When the principle was told the issue was never did anything to solve the issue, or have a parent, student, principal conference! Poor education, poor communication, pooor school!

My daughter has been there two years and is doing great. She wears a uniform and has never gotten picked on except by kids at other schools and only made fun of because having to wear them. In 20 years, it will not matter what they wore, but what they learned. It is a strict school, but have no problem with that as they are there to learn and not socialize or play. I think the principle and assistants have a good grip on the discipline issues with what little resources they have and will send my daughter there for a third year. If parents volunteer once for anything, lunch, after school, etc. with 1500 students there, they would have the much needed help that government has cut or Rockford has no money for! P.S. I received call within 24 hours and had meeting with teachers in 6th grade no problem!

I have had nothing but problems with the school. Staff stated there is not enough staff for the amount of students. The afterschool program is a joke. The children sit in a room with a teacher and recieve little to no guidence. Uniforms should be for all or none. Making the 6th graders wear uniforms made them stick out and get picked on. Getting extra help with accademics was not available. Getting in touch with a teacher was next to impossible. You are notified by mail that your child is in danger of or failing after the fact. I have been requesting a transfer to another school and have been denied 4 times. I refuse to send my child back to the environment at RESA. Watching movies (for fun) 2-3 a day is not what I call an education.
