I have had children at Michael Collins Elementary for over a decade. While the newer principal is trying to raise the "scores", the community involvement has taken a back seat. If the principal took the time to look back in the past to see why Collins was the NUMBER 1 school, she would find it was COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT. Parents that care have children that succeed! However, this school has become more of a closed door involvement school. Newer office staff does not recognize the importance of a smile goes a long way, the teachers are given "my way or the highway" parameters to deal with, and MANY of the great teachers have chosen the highway. Unfortunately, many of the teachers and staff who KNEW Collins school and the family/children by name, when they saw them, are no longer there. It is a cold learning environment that is sinking quickly on the District 54 list. It makes everyone sad to watch this, but, our super, Mr. Rafferty does not listen to John Q. Public.

Teachers shall involve more in Advanced circulum to boost student individuality. Just concentaring only on ISAT. I request is to concentrate on MAP and CAT which are mostly towards the students betterment.

So far this has been a great school for my son, they have unique teaching methods and allow the kids to use there imaginations. He visits other classes and is very excited about being in those classes in the future.

This school is very passionate when it comes to teaching children. The staff cares and makes sure the children are learning their stuff. Constant connection with the parents is there and the level of learning is of acceptable quality. The neighborhood is very lucky to have this school for their children. Thank you. -Samuel and Silvia Cruz

This is a wonderful school. Not only is my son attending here, but my husband attended this school when he was in elementry school. Some of the same teachers are still there and as wonderful as my husband remembers them. He says some of his great teaching experiences where with Mrs. Kirch who made learning fun. My son agrees.
