I just had a daughter that went to Washington as a 8th grader for the 03-04 school year and I agree that Washington is on a low income budget but it is made up for by the teachers and the enjoyment at the school. Sure some of the teachers aren't all that great, but there are many that reach out to the students, spend their lunch time with them, and talk to them out side of school. They are wonderful people and the school is a learning experience. There is one teacher there in the 8th grade who has turned down countless job offers to go teach at better and more income schools, but she enjoys the students at Washington and loves working there. That right there proves that Washington may be a poor school, but they do teach and give good learning experiences on life. And they have started to discipline better recently over the past 3 years I've seen.
I rate this school as a bust. I have had 2 daughters go there. This school is located in a very low income neighborhood. The administration at this school is very intimidated by certain racial groups. I have seen first hand how this works & have been attacked with their reversed racism. Washington Middle School is a not so good place to have your children going. The Administration is scared out of their wits to confront any problems occurring from a minority group of kids. The old double standard falls in line real quick. As far as cirriculum goes, they have the average school classes & some, but very few, good teachers. There are some teachers who scream at students & point out their faults thru a whole period. What ever happened to take a negative & make it a positive? The Administration as a whole should try harder.
