The best high school i had a lot of memories in the school made a lot of friends especially with the teachers.
STHS is probably in line with most other small town high schools in Illinois. It doesn t have the benefit of being a suburban school, receiving more money from property taxes, and the student body is generally less mature than those suburban schools that offer great education experiences. However, despite having some staff members that really don't want to be there, most of the teachers care about giving the students the best education they can with the resources available. As with any school, students fight, they pick on each other, and they define their high school experience. The problems associated with this school stem from the student body rather than the staff. If the students that complain about STHS could see what it is like at a Chicago Public School, they probably would change their tune. The CPS schools are the type with a Staff just pushing the kids through without regards to performance. Be glad that STHS does what they can with the resources they have.
its free and we learn to love life and we learn important ways to live in he outside world. The teahers care and are willing to help you when you need it. They want to help.
Streator High School has been one of the most stressful institutions in my life. My own children were unhappy there and that was 20 years ago. At that time there were some pretty arrogant teachers there. Needless to say, with her problems and lack of dedication by the school, one of them did not graduate. Then my grandchildren have run into the same problem. Never mind that you have emotional, attention, or learning problems. For each infraction more and more is heaped on the child so that they no longer can keep up with their grade level because they are thrown out of school so much. Each incident makes for more poor self concepts, thus making the problems worse. There needs to be a monitoring program for students that fall through the cracks. I can never say anything good about this school.
Streator High school lacks in many things, and over does it in others. The majority of the teachers DO NOT care about the students (with exception to ms knuffman ms novak and a few others) and could care less if they learn just as long as the students get them a paycheck. The school is continuously taking away privelages that supposedly going to keep us safe when most parents even find them rediculus. We no longer have the chance to have fun in school it is strictly like we live in china. I could go on forever but for this survey I think this is enough.
I think that this is a great school. The extra-cirriculars are outstanding as far as variety goes. The faculty at STHS is nothing short of amazing. They are all very dedicated and you can tell that they love what they are doing at STHS. As far as fights go, the school is not to blame. The fights happen because students don't know how to handle their problems in mature ways, without violence. The faculty is very serious about disciplining the students who do fight. I don't think that parents should criticize the teachers saying that they are only there for the money and aren't dedicated. Unless you are in the classroom, you couldn't possibly see how dedicated the teachers truly are. STHS is a great school.
there are always fighting, and my child is always picked on no matter what she does to change her life, my child knows every little thing that happens there at that school
Well, I am a student at Streator High School. I think it would be a horible school to send your kid to. There is a lot of things going on. Get threatened a lot. You walk down the hallway and hope your invisible so nobody will start anything with you. It has a lot of drama.
being a millitary child i pretty much have changed schools all my life. except for the past two years when i attended streator high, i noticed that this school is lacking in leadership, the teachers have no respect for the administration because they agree that the people in charge, have no right or reason to be in charge. Last year the complaints were mostly abouit funding issues, granted they just built a 32 million dollar building, when you just down right waste money on non essential items (video game machines...which are broken down most the time) then what gives them the right to complain, as you can see they take something so simple and make a big complicated mess. i wish i could just rant on and on, im really glad to have graduated, the last two years were the worst of my entire education expirenence so far.
I graduated from Streator in 2005 and found it to be no worse than any other high school experience when comparing stories with college friends. I will admit that the school lacks diversity and has a limited number of AP and language courses compared to most, but I never encountered a threatening or dangerous situation. I couldn't name enough positive qualities regarding the faculty, but I can name several teachers who I feel were especially involved with the progress of their students--Senora Mitchell, Mr. Sarazin, Mr. Astle, and Mr. Harris. Other teachers are approachable and friendly but it's apparent that these four are notably committed to their profession.
