I think that choosing a school for you and your children is a very personal choice. We all have different ideas of what is important for our children and what we find to be valuable. I have two children at Wolcott it is a very exceptional school. Teachers at Wolcott don't have any problem controlling their classes BECAUSE they are lenient and earn the respect of students. The teachers cater to confused students which is one of the best aspects of this school! No matter what your problem is the teachers will make themselves available at virtually any time to help you prepare,They never leave anyone behind. The teachers and students are friendly, yet competetitive a bit. The Prinicipal is very encouraging and hands on.
I had 2 children go through Wollcott and one attending now. The teachers are great and care about the studants. The atmosphere at the school seems to have changed reciently with the arrival of a new the principle. She spends less time at school and is more worried about turning a small school into one like a chicago school. My children have benifited from small class sizes. Due to budget cuts and a principla that wants change, I fear that that oversized classes are on their way, causing the students to receive less attention and just become a number. I hope this doesn t happen but time will tell. I still like the school because of it s small town enviorment and the great teachers.
I agree with the other reviews. I have two children at Wolcott. My oldest will be entering the second grade. My youngest will be in Kindergarten. The pre-k program is excellant!! Wolcott has some great teachers. My daughter who is entering kindergarten can read, but I work with them alot at home also. You have to be an advoacte for your children anyway. Attend School board meetings get involved with PTA etc. The younger grades should have smaller classes, which they do. Overall so far we are very pleased with the school!
with 4 children who have gone from pre k to 8 grade, i can give a pretty good rating of this school. the primary grades are great. due to lack of funding by failure to pass a tax increase, the upper grades have suffered. The over all feeling is while we are doing the best, we all know the level of teaching talent, courses, and opportunities are not what they were just 5 years ago. and with more budget cuts. As a parent- just stay involved- and your child may be ok
My daughter has attended wolcott since kinder. But I feel the need to transfer her to a different school now because of the lack of funding the school now has. The teachers for the most part are wonderful and the school has provided us with the benefits you get from a small town, but as i said earlier so has the budget. There is no more computer classes and extra curricular activities are still around because of some good parents and great teachers.
My daughter loves her teacher and so far this school has done well by her but time will tell if that continues without passing the referendum.
