I went to TPHS from 95-99. What I can say is that I received a good enough education to get into a near ivy league school, and because I was able to play sports at Tinley, I was able to get some financial aid to go to said school and play for another 4 years. One thing that Tinley has going for it is a lower student count and a good student to teacher ratio. Im not sure why someone on here would care how the team has performed at their last few home comings, but Tinley has had MANY successful sport teams in most of their provided sports. I think students at tinley have the ability to shine and are more likely to be noticed! That is hard to find at alot other area schools.
My child received an excellent education from this school and the district as a whole. He also got accepted into a fantastic collage.
Move out of the district if you have to so you can avoid this miserable high school. Horrible curriculum.
Poor school. Complete lack of a challenging curriculum. Poor educational techniques. Only come here if you want a sub-standard quality education for your kid and want them to pass. They can work in Mcdonalds for the rest of their life!
While TPHS isn't bad at getting average students into mediocre colleges, it offers little encouragement for students that have the potential to attend more respectable universities. They must address this in order to be on par with the good public schools in the area.
Because it has awesome swim program for kids and aswesome pre shoool
It's small enough to allow the students to actually know each other. No oversized impersonal atmosphere here! The staff actually remembers the alumni too!
Ok, lets try and cover some of the things that have been brought up in other reviews. I attended TPHS from 2004-2007 so I can say I have some of the most recent experience here. First of all, a football team doesnt make the school. We didnt have Lincoln Way East's or Joliet Catholic's type of prestige level. The football team is made up of the local kids that want to play. As far as athletic opportunity, this school is second to none. Secondly, the school is not racist or anything of that nature. The diversity in this school is what makes this school so amazing. We dont have tension between races or anything like that. Never had any problems with gangs. I had the opportunity to go to Andrew, Lincoln Way East, and Sandburg after 2 years at TPHS and I passed it up to continue going there.
Tinley Park High School is Well Rounded, academically, well positioned for our children. Teachers are Outstanding, Caring professionals, who want to see our kids be successful.
Incredible academic experiences! Great Co-Curriculars. Absolute choice for Tinley Residents! Great students, great staff.
I graduated from TPHS a few years ago the guidance staff was most helpful when choosing a college. The rest of the staff is just as good. The diversity is what makes TPHS a wonderful school. I am now working on my bachelors degree in early childhood education, thanks to TPHS early childhood classes which helped me choose what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. Take advantage of all the activities they have to offer as well as sports and services. They are there for you! Ask for help-thats what the staff is there for. As for the parking pass $50 is not that bad, the earing thing has been around for a while so what? Also, show the freshman around then they wont be so lost and hallways wont be so crowded. Make friends and have fun-it will be over before you know it! Trust Me.
Tinley Park High School is GREAT! There is a lot of different kinds of students, from different countries. It is an interesting place to acknowledge the different cultures around the world! As for the education, the teachers are always willing to help you out anytime you need them. The counselors' doors are always open for you. Also, the principal, Dr. McGraw, always has a cheerful face. Lastly, this school was in Illinois's record for being the cleanest. I highly recommend this high school. Go Titans!
This school is lousy as far as diversity is concerned. TPHS try to place all minority children in low tracks whereas they aren't learning anything. It's racist undertones all throughout this school. The counselors aren't helpful at all. Trust me I know from past experience. They told me I was best suited for Community College 4 years ago. Now I'm writing a theisis about how bad they are. By the way I never went to that Community College they suggested.
Tphs has been a great school since it began over 40 years ago. It is diverse and that just adds to it's charm. Students are able to get to know different types of people where they normally wouldn't at andrew. The teachers are for the most part outstanding. In response to the previous comment about getting through the freshman hallway, well... This is because freshman are usually lost and that is why it is packed! don't fall victim to the rumors of how horrible tphs. Go and experience it yourself with an open mind & you will love it. Go titans!
This school is dirty and the football team hasn't even won their own homecoming game in years. Freshman hall is impossible to get through. Guys aren't allowed to wear earings. Parking stickers for students are fifty bucks.
As a former student of T.P.H.S. I can see that the school has become quite diverse in its activities and that pleases me a great deal. I feel that even though the sports program isn't quite top notch there is still time and as a former Titan they still have my support and respect GO TITANS!!
As a student of T.P.H.S., I would say that this is not a bad school. It gives the students an opportunity to learn many different courses taught at our school and at other schools around the district. The sports may not be the best, but you can still feel a part of the team. The activities are also very fun. I really like my school.
