My daughter is a first grader and I can honestly say that we are "both" sad to be leaving this school and the great staff. The teachers have been excellent and very attentive. The principal is so open and approachable. Whenever I have seen him he is high-fiving a student, talking to a parent or catching up with a teacher. We have to move due to job relocation and I am hoping the next school provides the same great atmosphere and learning experience.

The teachers in this school are absolutely dedicated and terrrific. The principal is worthless and has no consistent discipline plan for infractions in the school. Multiple students in my granddaughter's Kindergarten class are consistently disruptive and this principal does NOTHING! When are principals going to care about the students that DO behave and remove the students that don't. My grandchild is entitiled to an education that is not disrupted by students who are screaming and totally out of control. From what I understand this principal also no respect from the teachers because he lacks the knowledge and experience required for an administrator. The superintendent needs to wake up and do a thorough evaluation of his administrators. Here's an idea....why don't you survey the teachers?

I love the school because it keeps gym class and recess in place. A lot of schools are taking away recess, which doesnt help the obesity rate, and putting more money into healthier lunches. Isn't this just contradicting what ur trying to do. Newport keeps recees, gym, and is starting to provide healthier lunches to the students.

The school has improved greatly over the past year. New principal has made some good changes. Behavior issues also seem to be improving unless we are talking about on the bus. There is poor parent involvement. With the new addition (which includes a new gym) the school really looks better. The computer lab has enough computers for everyone and with being on a network hopefully there wont be any problems, as there has been in the past. New PTA president very enthusiastic and great at getting donations. Should be a great year for the PTA.
