As a student that has graduated from Wheeling, this is one of the best high schools I have been too. The teachers are supportive, the other students are friendly and the activites encourge parent support. As a choir student, this school also has one of the best music programs in District 214. I wish I could be in Wheeling right now!
Wheeling is a wonderful school. I'm currently a student here and i truly love everything about Wheeling. I many friends who go to other schools like Buffalo Grove and Hersey, and they all look down on Wheeling. It has a bad reputation, but it really is a great school. The teachers are delightful, and what is crazy about Wheeling is that I never want to leave. At the end of everyday, if i don't have any after school activities, i go to the foyer (basically, the heart of the school) and see whats going on. There is always something to do at Wheeling. I love Wheeling and I'll always be a Wildcat.
Wheeling is such a diverse and wonderful school. There have been misrepresentations that have carried on from the past, but things have changed dramaticly. People need to realize that and have an open mind to how things are today. The teachers and students accept each other and it gives a "real life" surrounding. We have display of cultures, which is a day when all different cultures set up tables of different countries to learn more about them during the day. There are also performances in the theatre of dancing, singing, poetry, etc. Wheeling achieves well in academics as well. All teachers are more than happy to help their students succeed. I honestly wouldn't want to go anywhere else :)
I am a parent of a student about to enter his senior year. I cannot say enough about the high quality of Wheeling High School. Principal Lopez has done an extraordinary job in his brief tenure. My son has been given the privilege of an outstanding, caring faculty and challenging classes and many opportunities for extracurricular activities.
This school has gone downhill since I went there. The school hasn't made AYP (Annual Yearly Progress) in the past 3 years. The administration stinks. Most of the good teachers have either been let go due to recent lay offs or have retired. Most of the teachers are pretty bad.
Although I do not live in Wheeling, I currently attend Wheeling High School. Being a member on the newspaper, Spokesman, I have an opportunity to found out the truth behind what people think is actually going on. Ever since Mr. Lopez has taken over, things have been getting steadily better. I was not there before Mr. Lopez, so I do not know the quality of the school then, but I do know that Mr. Lopez has put his heart into making WHS like a second home. Test scores have improved, tardiness and absences have decreased, and we just found out today that since the administration declared 'war' on D's and F's, such grades have decreased by 23%, and they are trying to get all of us to do even better. Although we lost some great teachers, that doesn't mean that even more amazing ones haven't come along.
I have resided in Wheeling, IL for the last 23 years. I grew up in Chicago. I have sent two daughters to Wheeling HS and they both have done extremely academically and socially. The academic foundation they received at Wheeling HS, as well as diversity of the student body, have served both of my daughters well. Both have gone on to the U of IL and made Dean's List. My oldest graduated and will start law school next fall. The teachers care about the students and the school spirit for sports and after school activities is evident throughout the year. My son is in 7th grade and is anxious to become a Wheeling Wildcat.
Wheeling High School is a great school. The diversity at Wheeling shaped me into an international person. I am comfortable with all races and genders after graduating from WHS. Now, I'm at one of the top 50 universities in the nation and comfortable and friends with all races. I would like to say, NO there are not gang members here, cliques, and unsafe people at WHS. That is just a stupid stereotype made because of our great diversity. The academics at WHS were good too. I felt like WHS prepared me well for college and I have no problem so far. The real world today is made of thousands of ethnicities and races, not just one. To be successful, one must be comfortable with all races, which Wheeling High School did for me.
This school is really great. All the teachers treat all students like equal. I use to live in Wheeling and go to that high school, and everytime I pass by that town, it just sings to me that I'm home. So I recommend this school to anyone because, people are just very nice, and it is very diversed so you can meet a lot of different people.
First, I would Like to say that Wheeling High School does not have a Principal Enis. Maybe you are thinking of the superintendent of the district, and if you do not like her, then you have trouble because she also oversees Buffalo Grove. I am a former student of Wheeling, and I have lived in Wheeling all my life. It is a great high school. Many teachers who have taught at other schools have come back and said that Wheeling is the 'best kept secret' in the district. Wheeling offers quality education in academics and in life. Wheeling has great diversity which offers students a look at the real world, which is interacting with other people other than you. Wheeling does not have a gang problem, or a drug problem, like other schools here. There is no cliques; everyone is friends with everyone. It does not matter what you wear. Go Wheeling!
I am an alumni of Wheeling Highschool and now a parent with a five year old. I have to say that before Prinicipal Enis came to our school it was a wonderful place of education and activities, however after she got there she switched too many things which abrupted my positive highschool experiences. I'm heard from my other friends and also alumni of WHS Wildcats and they take my same view point. Thanks I will not recommend this school, but will surely steer people to Buffalo Grove!
Wheeling Highschool is a wonderful school. They have great teachers, who are there for the kids. Wheeling also has tons of activities for teens to be invovled in. This school is really safe too.I would recommend this school to every parent.
