Yorkville High School

I am a student of YHSA and i love my teachers, i got lucky. Yet, we are behind other schools. It bothers me because i have to transfer now I am going to be practically a freshman again.

My children have attended Yorkville for the past 7 years. In that time many things have changed. The most notable being the building of new schools to keep class sizes lower, revamping older, outdated curriculums, hiring a new HS principle. This new principle is fabulous and works tirelessly to raise the level of learning and accountablilty within the district, his teachers, and students. This year, though dollars are tight, the district is not talking about RIFs or reductions in extra-curricular activities, nor have any been mentioned for next year. Our school board appears to be doing a good job managing dollars while continuing to move the district forward. Parent input and participation is encouraged and welcomed. Though we had a rocky start when moving here, my children now enjoy the schools they are in and can take courses that challenge them even though they are at the honors level..

It is a school filled with students,teachers,facalty, and parents who care not only about education,but their community as well.

The music program in particular is wonderful... the new principal is making great changes... and the students are amazing.

I'm currently a student at Yorkville High School. As far as schools go, Yorkville is okay. It's nothing spectacular and some of the classes/teachers are a bit...lackluster. However for the upcoming school year, some changes have been made to the curriculum that hopefully will improve the situation for future classes.

We moved to Yorkville 8 years ago and love the school systems here. Our 2 boys refuse to leave Yorkville because of the schools. I agree that Yorkville has undergone many changes and many are still to come. I do believe it all starts in the home and not the school. Kids need a good base and if they don't get that from their parents, those parents shouldn't expect the teachers to fill in that role. Parents need to participate in their childs education and not just let them 'float-on by'. Both of my boys are excellent athletes as well as high honor roll students. So don't go blaming the school district, the schools, the teachers, or administrators.....start blaming yourself for not being involved and your child who doesn't want to learn. No matter what school their in, a child that has a positive attitude will always succeed in life.

Over the past few years Yorkville has undergone many changes, population growth, a new mayor, new schools, and many other things. Because of these changes, it has been hard for the school district to keep up with these things. I recently graduated from Yorkville, and I believe that the school had some pretty outstanding programs. I also believe it depends largely on the student and how much he or she makes out of his or her education. Yorkville does offer some advanced placement courses in which most students who actually take the tests do well. Students who do care about their academics can easily find help from the teachers. It isn't that the teachers don't care; it is usually the students who blow off their assignments and don't care to do any work. In addition to academics, Yorkville also offers a variety of sports that are on the riseof greatness.

I've been a student at Yorkville High School For a year and a half now and i am going into my senior year. I strongly advise you to keep your kids away from this school because several of the teachers at this school could care less about the students. Also since the city is growing the student population is growing and the teachers are growing even more careless.

I've been a student in Yorkville for nine years. I moved here from West virginia in the third grade. I have found from the very beginning that the Yorkville schools are quite behind compared to other schools. First off, we do not have enough room for all the students at all. They finally built another intermediate school and that took forever. They built a new high school so the old one could become a middle school. That action is now outdated. Our high school is so packed that you cannot even walk through the halls anymore. It takes ten minutes almost to walk from one side to the other. There are not enough teachers so students are restricted to what classes they can take. Lastly, Physical Education is required for all four years. That is ridiculous considering the gym classes are packed. There isn't even enough gym space for all sports.

I am a student and attend Yorkville High School. I would advise you not to have your children attend here. The teachers here don't erally care how you are doing, as long as your quite. There is little teacher-student contact.
