Great learning environment. Most kids are very respectable, friendly and work hard to excel. Teachers are nice and administration tries very hard to create and ensure the environment is safe and effective for all.

There is no parent involvement what so ever. The teacher involvement is even less when its not during 'school' hours. I have tried to meet with teachers right after school, and some are gone before the kids get on the bus. This could be a problem in many places, but this just left a bad taste in my mouth here. The children are taught only what is going to be on the state tests, to help them maintain their no child left behind status. I think kids need more than that to really survive.

My stepson has attended this school for almost 2 years. I am content with the quality of the program. Not a huge number of extracurricular activities from what I can see. There is an average amount of parent involvement. Staff has always been very courteous and helpful

The K-6 grades are doing very well in Zion. Yes there are a number of challenges as the city transitions of losing 65% of our budget in 2000 from the closing of the ComEd plant, but overall our grades schools do an excellent job and are one of very few in Lake County not on the financial watch list.
