I think some teachers are paid way too much, and others way too little. The problem is finding the teachers worthy of paying more too.

Our district shows "inflated teacher salaries" by including all the benefits in the amount. Actual pay is about 10K less than shown.

No--Most of the public has no idea how hard most teachers work. Their summer is often taken up w/workshops, etc, often paid for w/their own $.

Our local paper lists the teacher's pay in our district. Some make nearly 100K for 9 mos of work. HARDLY underpaid plus benefits for life.

I think good teachers are underpaid, given how demanding their jobs are. Isn't that one of the main reasons why so many leave the profession?

Probably not, but we'd all like to be paid more, right?

I have mixed feelings on this. They do have a hard job, unlike any other out there and they often have to pay out of their own pocket for classroom supplies. But then I hear of things like the "Rubber Room" in NYC, where tenured teachers who can't be fired and won't quit sit for years while making salaries off of tax-payers dollars.

Depends on the city, some cities pay quite well for a job that offers 4 months vacation and tenure. But definitely not all cities pay their teachers enough. many do not get a living wage and so must resort to working two jobs. This is absurd.
