As the PTO president at my son's school, I can say that prior to my term there were many opportunities to volunteer and our board this year is continuing with that tradition. I enjoy seeing parents throughout the school at any given time.

Yes, we as parents are applauded and supported when we volunteer. We can go to our child's classroom anytime and help with whatever is needed, even without notice, which is really nice.

Yes I am proud of our schools on volunteering. I have volunteered over 600 hours since September to help our student body publish personal narratives and illustrations. The school accomodated me 100%. Wonderful experience and they want others.

No. If you are not a stay home mom or in the stay home mom "click" that stands in front of the school gossiping all day... good luck trying to volunteer. I've decided to put my efforts elsewhere, in volunteering with sports and scouts.

We were given the opportunity of 25 hours of vol. time in our school. We had a parent who came in to teach knitting. Another taught Spanish. More came to read, craft & participate with the main lesson. We had a successful year of parent involvement.

"Service Hours" are required at DD's (parochial) school. Each parent puts in minimum 30-60 hours a year, & the students definitely benefit. There are some tiny things I'd change about the way the program is run, but theres no lack of opportunities.

I volunteered at my sons school last year all year long... this year no parent volunteers are allowed. I am so disapointed with my school and the school district i am going to let my house go back and move and rent somewhere...

i wish we had more parents who would volunteer to do things. we are a middle school made up of approx. 1000 students and have only 3 people on the PTA. we need more parents to step up and help.
