What is a parent's role in his or her child's education?

It is the most important. You have to help your kid if he/she needs help. A teacher should say "you need to learn this" and a student should learn it. You can't expect a teacher to customize every lesson for each kid's needs. A parent should do that.

Parents are the first step for any child to learn - they instill the love of learning, the level of expectations and the dreams that come with a great education for their children. Nothing takes the place of a parent encouraging their child.

Parents need to be actively involved as much as possible. Only a parent can ensure their child is getting the education they deserve.
