Need to refurbish the Olney High School field

Hello, I do not have children in philadelphia public schools but do have grandchildren. I am a community activist in the community where I live. The Olney High School field is an eyesore in our community. I have to go a distance as a community resident to go to another High School or college just to walk the track. This is for leisure for me. But I am concerned about how to get support for the field to be refurbished. We have a city wide election coming up in 2011. I wonder if I should put that on the agenda for the elected officials to come up with funding for the field. Could someone give me some ideas?

Many schools do come up with fundraisers or look to the community to fund expensive programs. One suggestion would be to have the kids speak out at an upcoming Board of Education meeting. And with your background as a community activist, look at writing grants to stores like Target and even the utility companies to see if you can get enough money to refurbish the field.

Good luck.
