I have two children at Maple Grove, and they absolutely love it. My eldest is in an enriched classroom and learning things I only dreamed of when I was that age. The new principal is great and truly seems to care about each child. All of the teachers are involved with the children, call with questions and concerns, and care about the children entrusted to them. I'm happy to call Maple Grove my children's elementary home.

Our family moved to the area about 5 years ago. I am very happy with the education my children are getting at Maple Grove. The teachers are wonderful. They are very compassionate and dedicated.

I am the parent of two children at Maple Grove. This is an exceptional school. The school is amazingly well-funded. The principal knows each child and personally places him/her in the best class to meet their abilities. I also have a child that struggles in school, but I have been met with an abundance of help from the the school staff.

I have two children who attend this elementary. My third-grader struggles in school. Everytime we request help we are met by excuses like 'we don't have the funding to help your child' or 'she is not far enough behind to qualify for help'. This entire school system is driven by ISTEP scores not by the skills the children actually acquire. Unfortunately, their school board spends excessive amounts of money on athletics (i.e. outdoor locker facility). I am a Center Grove Alumnus and I am very disappointed in the education my child is receiving. This entire school system has their priorities out of order. How many professional athletes has CGSC produced? They need to concentrate on the quality of education these students receive. More parents need to be involved by attending school board meetings.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Indiana used the Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress-Plus (ISTEP+) assessment to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English/language arts and math, grades 4 and 6 in science, and in grades 5 and 7 in social studies. The ISTEP+ is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Indiana. The goal is for all students to score at the passing level on the test.

About the tests

Indiana uses the A through F School Grading System to assess the overall performance of a school. For the 2011-2012 school year, schools were graded based on performance and participation levels in state standardized tests and student growth using the Indiana Growth Model. In addition, high schools were graded on four-year (on-time) graduation rates and college and career readiness indicators including Advanced Placment exam results and industry certification exam results.

average

Our rating (from 1 to 10) reflects a school's overall performance. The higher the rating, the more likely the school will prepare your child for the future, so choose an above-average school (8-10) if possible. For average schools (4-7), do careful research and look for evidence that the school has high-quality programs. For below-average schools (1-3), take caution; a low-performing school may not provide the instruction or environment your child needs to learn, and you may need to supplement classroom lessons at home.

Academic rating

The academic rating is made up of equally-weighted parts: students' test scores, their academic growth (for elementary and middle schools) and their readiness for college (for high schools). The graphs below compare this school's results in each area to other schools in the city and state. Growth and college readiness ratings are coming soon, pending publication of 2012 data.
