This school has taught my son tons since he started and he enjoys going every day. Every day he comes home singing new songs, wanting to play a new learning game with me or someting of the sorts. I don't think that the teachers pay enough enough attention to notes that are sent in to them though as I have sent some of the same things in for two to three days in a row before getting a response.
I have really enjoyed my child's experience at Hornet Park Elementary School. The principal is very outgoing and involved in the classrooms with the children. The teachers are very confident and work well with this age group. When questioned about the Kindergarden - 1st grade concept, I explain, it is great because every activity is geared for their age group including class size, desks, lunch tables, and even the library books needed for children of this age. The looping classroom is a great concept also because the child get to know the teacher and vice versa, the teachers know what to expect from each child and what they are capable of achieving. Also the amount of testing done on each child periotically is great. The children do STAR Literacy, NWEA and mini-isteps 2 - 3 times a year for each test. Great report card system too.
We are very pleased with Hornet Park Elementary School. The teachers and principal are very approachable, and are always willing to discuss the child's progress. The Beech Grove school district has a very unique approach to education that I feel will help the children to develop more easily and adjust to each new grade level
