I have hit many problems with teachers and the rules here

This school, though lacking in administrative quality, almost makes it up with a handful of fantastic teachers. They lack a basic understanding of the priority and appropriateness of punishment in certain situations.

While the teachers are generally good, I feel the administration is lacking in a basic understanding of what a true middle school should be and what children this age need. They really seem more focused on keeping order rather than what is best for 12-14 year olds. Several athletic programs overemphasize winning rather than allowing children to explore an interest in a sport. The music programs are wonderful. Unfortunately other arts seem to be underemphasized. Communication from the school leaves a lot to be desired. I signed up for the school newslist months ago, but have never received a single email. This is coming from a parent with one child in the 'gifted' program, and one that attended the school previously.

This middle has come a long way in the last year. Two new great asst principles have been added who truly make a difference, they really care about the students. I am impressed more every day by the faculty, staff, and students at this school.

I think this school is a less than happy school. There are way to many food fights and the princeiple just walks around like she owns tha place. If only she cared about the students more than what their wearing. I'd also like to see the principle interact with the students more, trust me it would be a much better invironment.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Indiana used the Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress-Plus (ISTEP+) assessment to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English/language arts and math, grades 4 and 6 in science, and in grades 5 and 7 in social studies. The ISTEP+ is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Indiana. The goal is for all students to score at the passing level on the test.

Our rating (from 1 to 10) reflects a school's overall performance. The higher the rating, the more likely the school will prepare your child for the future, so choose an above-average school (8-10) if possible. For average schools (4-7), do careful research and look for evidence that the school has high-quality programs. For below-average schools (1-3), take caution; a low-performing school may not provide the instruction or environment your child needs to learn, and you may need to supplement classroom lessons at home.

Academic rating

The academic rating is made up of equally-weighted parts: students' test scores, their academic growth (for elementary and middle schools) and their readiness for college (for high schools). The graphs below compare this school's results in each area to other schools in the city and state. Growth and college readiness ratings are coming soon, pending publication of 2012 data.
