I'm currently a student in the 8th grade. Over half of the people here do drugs. The kids make fun of mentally challenged kids. The principals do nothing to stop this. Some kids even do drugs at school and bring their drugs to school. And if they do get caught for doing drugs by someone telling on them they get suspend for a few days. Don't make your kids go here...

The Chesterton school system is superb and receives high scores every year; it is one of the best school districts in NW Indiana--that's a fact, not my opinion. I attended this school and I could not have asked for a better middle school experience. It is safe. The classes are relatively small. The teachers and administrators will do whatever they can to help students succeed. The curriculum is challenging. There is a huge variety of extra curriculars, with everything from cheerleading and football to spanish club and intermural volleyball. This school got me more than prepared to enter high school. All in all, you really can't ask for much more from a middle school.

Chesterton School system is over-rated. I moved with my mom to Chesterton and will be going back to Valparaiso High School next year. The quality at Valparaiso is simply better. Sorry!

Cms is a great school I just moved here and i am going into the 8th grade now. i do agree that there are a lot of bullies and cliques but that is what makes a real school. Chesterton is a very welcoming place.

I, HOWEVER, Have to disagree with the previous entry. CMS is an outstanding school. My child is never been bullied or tuanted. The academics are appropiate and it is a safe environment. Maybe, we as parents need to except our child for their own faults and stop blamming the general population of kids in Chesterton.

This school has been a big disappointment. All we heard moving into the Duneland School district was how wonderful the schools are. They are probably fine for average kids, but if your child is the least bit exceptional. The community is not warm to newcomers or diversity. There are many cliques and bullies at CMS. They speak of zero tolerance to bullying, but they seem to turn their glance when a student is being taunted. They are also very adept at placing the blame on the victim, suggesting counseling while the aggressors face no consequences. It has therefore given none of the advantages of a small town school, with all of the disadvantages.
