My son was humiliated and tormented by bullies. He was afraid to go to school and would become physically ill at the thought of going to school. The principal is only concerned about money and will side with the parents that bring the most money into the school. My sons teacher was old and tiard of dealing with kids that she just didn't care anymore. Horrible experience!

We have sent both of our three children to St. Mary's Crown Point and will send our third child when she is old enough. It is an excellent school. The Principal truly loves our kids evident by one look at how he interacts with them. The teachers are very dedicated to making sure ALL the kids are keeping up and very helpful if they have trouble. We have been associated with this school for five years and I have yet to have a complaint about the staff or school.

Our oldest spent 6 years in the Crown Point public schools before we decided to send her to SMCCS. Now we would never think of sending our children anywhere else. The challenging curriculum, the dedicated teachers, and Principal Ruiz make St. Mary s the best school in Crown Point and give our children the skills they need to succeed in high school and beyond. The attention and help given to our children is something we never received at the public school. Our only suggestion to the school is that the teachers need do a better job of keeping OptionC updated. We ll also agree with other reviewers that the parent politics/cliques can be frustrating sometimes, but it has never interfered with our kids education. Lastly the TRIP requirements are a bit steep, especially when the administration/organization of the program seems to have suffered this year.

I have noticed that there are a few not so nice comments about our school nurse. As a fellow school nurse, Nurse Miskus has never been unprofessional or inappropriate, Patty has always treated my son with great attention and concern. The Nightingale Pledge mentions being "devoted to those in my care." No she doesn't think that she's a physician - in her professional opinion your child should be seen by a physician.

My son is in the 3rd grade and loves St. Mary's. We have had no issues and only positive experience. Any issues that my son has had with ADD was given extra attention and opportunities for extra tutoring. I work full time to make sure my son gets the best education. I do wish grandparents could do service hours if they are virtuously trained. My work schedule to send my son gives me little time to volunteer. Also I would love to see the trip program not be a requirement and the $200 added to the total tuition and any trip you buy is a direct credit to your tuition bills. I have a 2yr old who will also go to St.Marys starting in preschool. I'm happy to pay for a great education!

We have two children who have or still go to St. Mary. Without a doubt, this was the best choice we could've made for our girls. I have never met a harder working principal and staff with genuine care and concern for every child in that building. You will regularly find them working late hours for the children. There are many programs for the children to grow and learn with. Both of our children participate in sports, music and school government. Our oldest has excelled at the next level while continuing her Catholic education. She is an honor roll student. Nurse Miskus is GREAT. She always keeps us informed and she treats our daughter well. The entire school office keeps us informed of activity regarding our children. I have never experienced "politics" while being part of the SMS family and no mention of any issues with voucher program students. They are students like our children. I am proud of the diversity here. I recommend anyone making a new school decision take the school tour, attend the open houses and speak to the real parents...the ones who's children go to the school. You will quickly find out why this school earns the high rating that it does.

I am an alumni of this school and was very happy when I enrolled my own child here. The way the teachers go the extra mile for their students has always amazed me. There is never a time when a child is left behind when it comes to education. The teachers always make sure that every single one of their students understands the materials at hand. The staff there are all friendly and professional. As for the education there; it's top notch. They have classes for the gifted students as well as the extra help for those who struggle in certain areas. I am a proud parent of a wildcat and would never consider taking my child out of there. It's just an all around great place for a child.

This is my daughter's first year at St Mary's and I have to say that I am very pleased! I am so happy that I chose to send her there. I myself went to catholic school and I am impressed at how well everything is organized and communicated. I look forward to experiencing the coming years with my daughter at St Mary's!

St. Mary's is the best choice for our family! Not only do our kids love it, we love it also. The teachers, principal, nurse and office staff and everyone involved in this school are truly dedicated to our children. This school is really a family and we are so proud to be a part of this great school!

I am a Secretary at St. Mary's and I see first hand the care, kindness, and professionalism our nurse exhibits everyday to all who enter her office. As far as I am concerned, she performs over and above what is required of her position. I am appalled by the negative comments made about her. If "you" are referring to seeing a doctor when absent 3 days or more, that it school policy. If not, you should be happy that someone cares enough to be concerned about your child's health. I could go on and on about how wonderful our nurse is, but I think I've made my point!

We currently have a third and first grader at St. Mary's. We think all of the teachers are incredible. We have a child with food allergies and the nurse will call and ask us questions if ever in doubt. The kids are academically challenged even in Kindergarten yet they still are allowed to be little kids and have playtime and downtime incorporated into their schedules. We don't hesitate about the financial sacrifice we are making. If you have to be away from your kids for 7 or more hours a day would't you want them in a faith filled environment?

Simply put, St Mary's school is like home to my entire family. We have a 4th grader and 1st grader and could not be any happier with our decision to send our daughters to St Marys. The principal genuinely cares about each and every student, the teachers are outstanding and compassionate and the students are just all around kind, intellectual and giving children. It saddens me to hear parents complain and make stereotypes about transfer "voucher kids" as it goes against our Catholic belief and school pledge that we "are all one united in Christ". I would like to say that we are truly blessed at St Mary's with an incredibly loving and educated nurse: Patty Miskus. My daughter suffers from anaphylactic allergies and spends a great deal of time in the nurses office. I am always confident in the care that she receives. Mr Ruiz, numerous teachers, and especially Mrs. Miskus have personally gone out of their way to make sure our daughter is safe and secure and that she feels safe in her school environment. My husband and I feel great ease that our daughter and her health are protected. Nurse Miskus is a resource and blessing to this school. We love St Marys for all it has to offer!

We have a child in 7th grade who has been with SMS since kindergarten, and a junior in high school who attended SMS from 4th grade on. We couldn't be happier with their education. Our high schooler learned excellent study skills that have kept her on the honors track. Our 7th grader, being young for his grade, started off his education having difficulty reading. The teachers worked with him, and also got him the speech therapy he needed. Now he excels! Extracurricular activities offer sports, science, chess, band, choir, EPA, scouts, student government, altar serving, and more. Sure there have been bumps in the road, as there would be at any school, but we have been completely satisfied with the way the principal and teachers have handled them. The entire staff care about these kids!

We currently have 3 kids in the elementary program and our 4th is starting in the nursery school program in the fall. Overall, ours has been a wonderful experience. The class sizes are a nice manageable number, there are extracurricular activities for every interest, the families are a tight knit community. The teachers go above and beyond to make sure the kids understand the concepts and succeed in the classroom. St. Mary's isn't just a "school", they are creating a generation of educated, faithful, caring and kind citizens. We couldn't be happier and more satisfied.

My children graduated from St. Mary's School and attend Crown Point High School. They were well prepared for high school and transitioned smoothly, thanks to the strong academic tradition at the school. One need only look at the Wall of Fame which includes the top 12 students in each grade at CPHS to see that St. Mary's always has from 2 to 5 alumni occupying those coveted positions. The many extra activities such as CYO sports, academic competitions, chess club and many others are also a bonus. The religious education is wonderful and the beautiful children's mas and church are thing that I am also grateful for.

After enduring two terrible teachers in the Crown Point (4 star ) school system, I had no choice but to find another school. My son has been at St. Mary's for three years and loves his school. I brought my other kids to St. Mary's the following year and they are finally being challenged. The dedication of the teachers at St. Mary's fantastic. My children love being a part of this Catholic School and love Father Pat and the school masses. St. Mary's technology surpasses the public schools. There are so many programs available to all students. My children also have a great sense of community by participating in all of the service projects. As an educator myself, I truly believe that my children are receiving a well-rounded education in a safe, caring environment where they are establishing life-long friendships.

I have 3 children at St. Mary's. My oldest started there in kindergarten. We looked around at numerous schools in the area before deciding. I couldn't have made a better choice for my boys. When tragedy struck our family last year, the school, teachers, principal and other families were there to help us. Not sure about teachers not caring as I had teachers stay after school until well after 6pm to help my struggling child. The principal cared enough to check in with my boys to make sure they were handling things okay and gave them a place to go when they needed to talk to him. The teachers have been great to us since starting kindergarten as my oldest now enters 8th grade. I spend a lot of time volunteering at the school as well and I see thing other people don't see, like the way the teachers and principal are with the students. Makes me glad we chose St. Mary's.

My son is now in his 8th year at St. Mary Catholic Community School and we would not have it any other way! Every positive comment on here explains the reasons why St. Mary is such a great school. I have 3 children, 2 have graduated and my youngest is still there. St. Marys is an amazing school of strong catholic values, it's a character building community, children get a strong academic foundation and you can't ask for better role models which include the teachers, Mr. Ruiz, Fr. Pat the school and rectory receptionists and the janitors. When i read the negative comments my only thought was, Good parents = good kids. Parents are a huge part of St. Mary's success, if you want to see change in any area of the school, all you have to do is Volunteer, Attend home and school meetings, Support events and get to know other families. Your children will graduate from St. Mary's being well rounded individuals who will be prepared to make a difference in this world. That's exactly what I feel St. Mary's has done for my children!

My oldest child will be beginning her third year at St. Mary's, and we have been so happy that our other two children will be joining her in the fall! We have been blessed by the amazing teachers and support staff in our time here. They have been very supportive of our child's strengths and interests, as well as her needs. More than once, I have seen the school community band together in support of one another, and it's a wonderful thing to see. I never imagined that I would send my children to a private school, but I'm so glad I did, and can't imagine them anywhere but St. Mary's.

St Mary's has proven to be a wonderful learning environment for our child. I cannot say enough about the teachers and all staff associated with St Mary's. Educationally, the children are held to a higher than average standard. They are very welcoming and I especially love how protective and nurturing the older students are with the younger children. It is a close-knit group for both students and parents. As a parent who is very involved here, I see examples every day of the kindness and respect that everyone has for one another. I believe there is no better place for our child and am more than satisfied that their needs are being exceeded both emotionally and academically.

Our family has been very satisfied with St. Mary's. The principal, teachers and staff are all dedicated. Academically, my child is performing several grade levels beyond hers. We love that the Catholic faith is interwoven into the school day. I volunteer at the school several days a week, and have witnessed the kindness, compassion and respect that the children exhibit not only to the adults, but to each other. We highly recommend St. Mary's.

My wife went to this school many years ago and always talked about it. When it came time for us to decide rather or not to send out girls it was really a no brainer. This school is second to none. My youngest is about to enter kindergarten and the oldest is going into third grade. The teachers we have had in our short time there have be outstanding. The Principal Mr. Ruiz is great with the kids, he even coached my daughters basketball team over the winter and I got to see a whole new side to him. Don't get me wrong, it is certainly a sacrifice as a parent to send your child to St. Mary's. But one I am confident will pay off in my child's long term education future.

I am a parent of a former (recent) student at St.Mary's. Unfortunately both myself and my wife lost our jobs within 6 weeks of each other and although my son continued and finished out the school year, we were left with no choice but to withdraw him last school year. That been said, his 4 years at St. Mary's were four years I'm proud to have given him. The foundation and great start that he received has made his transition to public school so much easier. I remember a neighborhood kid's Granddad saying to me on the eve of his first day at St. Mary's, that he'll "have a 10th grade education by the time he's in 8th grade." I hope he'll return to St. Mary's for 2 more years in 2014 as I believe that this is a great investment in my child's future.

We were blessed to be able to send our four children to St. Mary's. When we moved to the area, we investigated various schools prior to purchasing our home and we were impressed by the atmosphere and the academic standing. We have never regretted our decision. Our four children were well prepared for high school (one of our children had a perfect score on his high school entrance exam, while another had a perfect score on her ISTEPS), but I truly believe they excelled because they were in a caring, faith-filled atmosphere. By volunteering in the classroom and as coaches, we were able to see this first hand.

St. Mary's is a wonderful school with caring and dedicated staff. I have had a wonderful experience working there with all of them and the students as well!!! Many many years ago I made a decision that I was unsure of, I have a smile on my face knowing that I chose to send my children to St. Mary's and it was one of the best decisions I ever made! I wanted my kids to have a faith based learning experience. The children are always kind and caring! I can honestly say if I ever walked into a classroom full of middle school kids they always addressed me as Mr or Mrs and I was just someone's patent. How many middle schools do you know that those kids know who you are? I love that the school is just like one big family, whether we pass in the hall, at church or just out and about town! All my kids have went above and beyond on their test scores and if ever a problem the teachers were always there for us offering their help. We are just average Joes who put money into our children's education! I am thankful for the education, respect, faith and FAMILY we are apart of!

My daughter is going into her 10th year at St Mary's. Never in all these years have we had a problem!! Were there issues we did not agree with? Of course! As Mr. Ruiz said, you cannot please everyone, so we accepted. We are in Merrillville school system, where my husband is also an administrator. There is no doubt in my mind that we made the right decision to send our daughter to St Mary's over Merrillville!!! The stories I hear that go on at Merrillville elementaries as well as Crown Point are appalling!! I can almost guarantee the kids at St Mary's have never even thought of these things! These years are very important in a child's life and I can honestly say that my daughter is the wonderful, well rounded, young lady that she is today because her years at St Mary's Catholic Community School!!!

I am a graduate of St. Marys school and have also chosen to send my 3 children there after the great experience I had. I believe it to be an eveven stronger school than I had experienced. While we are blessed to have amazing public schools in Crown Point, I feel my children receive even more than an incredible education. They are held to a very high standard which each an every person involved in the school is held to, parent, teacher, and child. We could not be happier and my children are very blessed to be a part of that community.

I have a special needs child and I had a very poor experience at St. Mary's. We had to take our child out of the school because he was being bullied and when he reacted to it, they started vicious rumors about my child. It got to the point that the principal threatened him with expulsion and tried looking for reasons to get him in trouble. We tried talking to the priest, but he was no help, he only heard that our child was a troublemaker and that he had a disability didn't matter, or the fact that the accusations were made up. He said if our child did this again he was going to be expelled! He had not done anything, his records are clean. So much for help. If you have a special needs child don't enroll them here! My child's teacher was wonderful we were sorry to leave her, she did care about our child!

I am a current student of St. Mary's. I've attended this school for the past 8 years , and i love it. The teachers are alot of fun, and help you REALLY understand it. We don't just learn math, english, and science. We learn faith, manners, and respect. The teachers also talk about politics and world issues on a level that we can understand. The kids are really nice and welcoming to new students. Mr. Ruiz the principal is very involved with us kids. We takes us out of class for a one-on one discussion about what we would want more of at our school. All in All it's a great school.

I'm a parent of four children at St. Mary's. I'm amazed at how much the children learn, the dedication of the staff and the involvement of such a huge portion of the families.
