While the standards of the school are above the state requirements I feel that they are only teaching for tests. This is a 3rd through 5th grade school. Not high school. They put way to much pressure on the kids. My child shouldn't hate school at 9 years old. The teachers could also be more personable when you're at the school. Also why aren't you able to volunteer? Do the teachers not want parents in the classroom? Does Mrs. Stolarz not want us in the school? When my child was at Winfield I helped in the classroom every week. I've never heard of a teacher not wanting help! The school is clean the custodial staff does an amazing job! Their is also plenty of clubs for the kids to choose from. The music teacher does an excellent job with her music programs!
I teach an extracurricular, after-school class for students at this school as I do for other schools throughout northwest Indiana and I can always tell in about two minutes just how dedicated the day-long teachers are to teaching and maintaining appropriate discipline in their school ... This is a school that plainly has a dedicated and consistent day-long teaching staff as well as administrators who expect the best in their teachers and their students (as well as the custodial staff since the school is spic-and-span whenever I am there) ... the students are respectful and adhere to instruction from me quite willing ... they are enthusiastic and interested and while the subject i teach can be a bit tedious at times, they give their best effort ... as with any group of students who just finished a day of school and are ready to explode into their after-school lives, they do on occasion have an extra energy that needs to be reigned in but it doesn't require more than a simple reminder from me and they are back on task This is obviously a well-run school with educators who care and give their best to their profession, their students, and their school.
