I am very proud of David Turnham School staff, students and parents for all the hard work they do and for always doing their personal best. We have a fabulous staff who cares for their students and works hard to benefit each and everyone of their students as well. Our principal is a strong leader who works hard to make sure that our school is run efficiently but also with a hands on approach with all of her students. Our principal and staff care for our students. Our parents are very involved in the activities and work that is done at David Turnham. As PTEO President, I think we have a great parent and teacher organization.

David Turnham is an excellent school. The principal, teachers, and staff all hold themselves to the highest standards and expect the students to do the same. All of the staff take a personal interest in the school and the students. A great school!

My son has been to 2 other schools. I am not suprised that David Turnham receives superior ratings. It is a wonderful school. It has the best staff, and is lead by a principal that is focused on the children academically and personally. Parental involvement is encouraged and that is very important, also.

David Turnham Gradeschool is a wonderful place to send your children. The Principal, teachers and staff all work together to provide their personal best, as well as, the best education that can be offered. I greatly respect the Principal, Mrs. Dianne Litkenhus, and would like to mention that she takes a personal interest in the welfare of the students, faculty and their families. Any corporation would be lucky to have Mrs. Litkenhus on their staff because of her fairness and integrity.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Indiana used the Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress-Plus (ISTEP+) assessment to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English/language arts and math, grades 4 and 6 in science, and in grades 5 and 7 in social studies. The ISTEP+ is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Indiana. The goal is for all students to score at the passing level on the test.

In addition, high schools were graded on four-year (on-time) graduation rates and college and career readiness indicators including Advanced Placment exam results and industry certification exam results.

average

Our rating (from 1 to 10) reflects a school's overall performance. The higher the rating, the more likely the school will prepare your child for the future, so choose an above-average school (8-10) if possible. For average schools (4-7), do careful research and look for evidence that the school has high-quality programs. For below-average schools (1-3), take caution; a low-performing school may not provide the instruction or environment your child needs to learn, and you may need to supplement classroom lessons at home.

Academic rating

The academic rating is made up of equally-weighted parts: students' test scores, their academic growth (for elementary and middle schools) and their readiness for college (for high schools). The graphs below compare this school's results in each area to other schools in the city and state. Growth and college readiness ratings are coming soon, pending publication of 2012 data.
