I just transferred from New Albany High School to Floyd Central due to environmental issues at New Albany. This school is TOP NOTCH. It is SO much better than New Albany. There isn't any bullying what so ever, not to mention that the academics are so advanced that you will be over prepared for college. The classes are challenging and it takes awhile to adjust to the teachers, but in the long run, it's worth it. The building is absolutely incredible, it is newly renovated and it shows. You don't feel like you're locked in a dungeon when you're at school here. You feel cared for, loved, and educated. What stuns me the most is the staff, they care. They straight up care about you. You're not a number, you're someone. The hospitality and caring actions made by the staff when I came here was incredible. If something wasn't quite right (which it rarely wasn't) they would sincerely apologize and fix it immediately no questions asked. I wake up at 5:30 and drive more than 20 minutes every morning and afternoon from New Albany to go to this school. It is simply the best, and I am extremely blessed to be able to be a part of this school.

I may move soon and have a daughter that is a pretty good bball player. She is 11 and it will be another year before we make the move but I was wondering what the youth athletics are like? Shes a decent player and I'd like to move to an area that would help her in her pursuit of basketball greatness! Lol. She's also a great student (one of 2 presidential accedemic award winners in her fifth grade class).

Floyd Central is an excellent public high school. While they are probably most known for their award-winning Dazzlers dance team and theatre department, the academics at FCHS are second to none. As a former student, I can honestly say that I was leagues ahead of my peers in college in terms of preparation, particularly in my field of study English. FC has many opportunities available to its students who want to be challenged. Whether you're looking for AP classes to prepare you for college or a good selection of electives, FC has something for everyone. There were very few faculty members who I would even remotely have something bad to say about. At least during my experience there, it never felt like a "teach to the test" type of environment. And now that the school has recently been renovated, I would definitely say that Floyd Central is an ideal place to have your child go to school.

FC is a great school for high schoolers. It has great success with academics. Sports are lacking for the most part and the ones that were good are slowly going down hill. Some athletics and performing arts are good such as the dazzlers, marching band, and theater.

athletically, a work in progress, but, academically one of the best, work isn't unreasonable, only if you don't want to be there in the first place, for the most part all of the teachers are some of the best and smartest around, it looks very good to colleges when you graduate from here also.....

Having one just graduate and another a senior this year, we have experienced several schools in Indiana, but Floyd Central by far provides the most well rounded education opportunities within the Metro Louisville area.

I agree with the one parent who stated that if your child excels, parents will find this to be a great school. Children that do struggle tend to fall through the cracks. There are some exceptional teachers at FCHS and there are some that have no business teaching. I have personally had problems trying to get certain teachers to communicate with me regarding one of my children's declining grades. All the responsibility falls on the parents when it comes to communicating about a child's progress. The same can be said of the school's administration. Often calls do not get returned or responses are delayed. Overall, FCHS is a good school, but certainly not an outstanding one. My granddaughter will be placed in a private school when the time comes.

Floyd Central High School is an excelent school with better programs for artisticly gifted children than any other public school I have attended. Though some of FCHS's athletics may have suffered over the years (mostly traditional sports like basketball and football), that doesn't mean that all of them have. In fact, most of FC's programs have flourished as the most accomplished atheletes decide to go out for teams like wrestling, tennis, and cross country. In addition, Floyd Central's art programs have greatly benefited from attention from not only the state, but the nation and even the international scene. Though there may not be a lot of diversity at FC, that doesn't by any means make us hillbillies. I have never heard a slur against anyone based on their race, ethnicity, or religion. All in all, I am proud to call myself a Floyd Central Highlander.

FCHS is an excellent school for any type of student. Although the athletic program could use some improvements, the school is streaming with numerous musicians and thesbians. FC's bands and orchestras are among the best in the state of IN. The only thing I disaprove of this fine school is that the principal does not give enough recongnition to the most talanted and excelling musical performers that try so hard to give their school a great reputation for excellence. I believe that this school has amazing academic and music programs, and I sincerly enjoy going here. I look foward to attending FC for three more glorious years.

Students at Floyd Central receive an education above and beyond the 'normal' high school. Although the school could have a little more diversity, as a graduate of Floyd Central, I feel I was very prepared for my college experience. With one semester left, of a 5 year major that took me only 3.5 years, I will graduate with a 3.995 because I received an A-. This school, academically, challenged me. I went to the state finals every year with the orchestra, and the school received a Grammy for its outstanding fine arts department. With athletics, I learned leadership skills. Floyd Central is an outstanding school with outstanding credentials. I am fortunate I received such a wonderful, all-around education.

Floyd central is a horrible school. The teachers are mean and rude, the and the work is unreasonable. This school is definatly not where you want to end up. I have been going here since 7th grade and i am misrable. My grades have dropped tremendously ever since i came here. If you have a choice, dont come to this school!

I would say Floyd Central is a quality school. As a whole, I do highly recommend this school because the large majority of teachers are competent to perform their jobs consistently. Floyd Central is a quality school for students who care in succeeding on a daily basis. I rate this school a score of 90! Eric L. Ellis -- Floyds Knobs, Indiana

Mr. Hien is the coolest man in the world. He is fun and crazy. He makes our class really exciting. He is so funny. He should become a comedian. FC is a great school.

Just our opinion, Floyd Central is a good school if you have a child who excels. If you have a child who struggles, you may want to consider taking a close look at other options. There are plenty of activities at Floyd Central. We had two children go through the system. Like other schools, it has some good teachers and some who are not so good.

We moved to Floyds Knobs for the sole purpose of getting our son the best High School Education possible. Floyd Central has proven to give our son the education we were seeking. The teachers and administrators have done their job in giving our son the knowledge to earn the grades needed for higher education. This move was well worth it! He now has the grades to choose the College of his choice. Thanks to all of the STaff at Floyd Central for caring enough about quality education. I would recommend this school as the best in Indiana. Thanks, Again Robert and Chris Grider

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Indiana used the End-of-Course (ECA) assessment to test students in middle and high school in Algebra I, Biology I, and English 10. The ECA is a criterion-referenced assessment developed specifically for students completing their instruction in Algebra I, Biology I, or English 10. The goal is for all students to score at the passing level on the test.

In addition, high schools were graded on four-year (on-time) graduation rates and college and career readiness indicators including Advanced Placment exam results and industry certification exam results.

Our rating (from 1 to 10) reflects a school's overall performance. The higher the rating, the more likely the school will prepare your child for the future, so choose an above-average school (8-10) if possible. For average schools (4-7), do careful research and look for evidence that the school has high-quality programs. For below-average schools (1-3), take caution; a low-performing school may not provide the instruction or environment your child needs to learn, and you may need to supplement classroom lessons at home.

Academic rating

The academic rating is made up of equally-weighted parts: students' test scores, their academic growth (for elementary and middle schools) and their readiness for college (for high schools). The graphs below compare this school's results in each area to other schools in the city and state. Growth and college readiness ratings are coming soon, pending publication of 2012 data.
