This school does not do anything when it comes to harassment of student on student.

I currently have 2 children in mt v . We moved here 6 years ago from a smaller school and have seen ups and downs my oldest is very well behaved kid but struggles academically at times I loved the tutoring help the school use to offer before budget cuts it was a real help I love the middle school and that they honor more than just academics, behavior too.. I was going to send my 2nd child to another school but when it came down to it I felt so much safer here than there. I love the online system so I can track their grades. I have encountered many teachers most of them are good I can only recall 2 that I think are just putting time in but I have also had many exceptional teachers that I think have really cared for my child. The verdict is still out for the administration (superintendent) seems political, but loved Mr. P and Mrs. B as principals. If you have a natural athlete , played for mt v in your days and are in to politics you will get into the sports here, but if you have a "Rudy" with heart that understands sports but small or akward kiss your hopes of keeping him involved in school athletics good bye! 5 stars for caring staff, and safety. 0 for athletics.& $ handling

Just ok. Not above and beyond. Even in honors classes students are more about grades and learning. AP classes are considered "hard" but as someone who's also attended a school where AP classes can be taken all 4 years (not just junior and senior year) and you don't take easy classes to "lighten your course load" I think the teachers just give tons of pointless work. Quantity rather than quality. Look at the AP Calc teacher, the AP Bio class. The teachers just don't know the right way to prepare the students and the students don't know when to study. They still get A's if they work, but I don't think they are being trained to get ready for college, to study not just for a final, but for quizzes and tests and just for the sake of learning. Not a good atmosphere.

Choose another school if you have a choice. Principal is a typical politician. Teachers will never contact you either by phone or email if your child is not doing well in a subject. School is being remodeled and at the same time charging to rent the books! The coaches are the only bright spot in this school...they do a very good job.

There are several 4 star schools in this system. The Mt. Vernon Elem. just got a grant to get the entire 2nd grade laptops! Mt. Comfort elem. prinicipal was the prinicipal of the year for the nation, the teachers from pre K to Senior truly care as well as the support staff.

My Daughter is in the high school and my son is in the intermediate school. We are very happy with the level of comitment of the teachers and staff. This school is still small enough that each and every child is important. It is far enough away from indianapolis that it still has a small town fell. ***** from me! 11/06/04 JPB of Fortville.
