Love it. Planned on putting my child here for kindergarten but he/we loved it so much we kept him there. Great school and caring staff.i do not have any complaints at all
Our daughter who was in lower elementary had a great experience overall at this school. Our son had a different experience, also in lower elementary. His teacher not only made derogatory statements to him on multiple occasions in class but wouldn't let him rotate desks like every other student did. Instead, she sat him in a corner away from the rest of the class. I would have thought all was going well because I didn't learn this from my son, but his class mates told me. When I brought in the principal, she told me this teacher was having a hard time in her personal life and took no action to stop it. His behavior scores were always the highest and he had no record of disciplinary issues so I think he bore the brunt of her dissatisfaction with her personal life.
We have two children enrolled at GCA, and couldn't be happier. The teachers are excellent, the environment of the entire school is great. I could not be more pleased with the decision to send our children to GCA. They are growing, we are thrilled about the new gym, we want to tell all of our friends about GCA, because they are doing a great job!!! More people should think about checking them out!
My daughter had been in public school from K to 3rd grade and was not academically challenged, and the school we last attended had little in the way of addressing bullies and behavior issues. We homeschooled from 4th to 7th and loved it. My daughter is now attending GAC and absolutely loving every aspect of it. The curriculum is challenging and is college-prep which is super. She loves the caring teachers and staff and has many friends among well-behaved, students who are at school to learn. We've experienced all educational models and Christ was the missing element -- GCA is our educational home -- we love it as a family!
After sending my daughter to a private school, then a public school and now back to a private school, I could not be happier with the decision to enroll her at GCA. Public School is not preparatory for the real world, it is a different world all in its own. GCA has provided a solid foundation for my daughter to succeed in life, not excuses for mediocrity as 'some' public schools do. I believe this is the best kept secret on the Southside of Indianapolis.
My oldest daughter attended a local public school and although we liked the school, we just weren't getting what we needed. We turned to GCA and now have another child attending there and another one soon to follow! We love it and so do the kids :O) It was exactly what we needed!
I have one child who graduated from GCA and two more who still attend. This school is warm and nurturing and very supportive. The teachers are amazing and Christ is very present in every classroom. The academics are very strong. My kids also came from public schools and were a bit behind, but the teachers know just how to get the public school kids caught up without making them feel bad. The only criticism I have is that there is more guidance needed for seniors as far as preparation for and applying to colleges, taking SAT & ACT and getting scholarship information. Overall, I don't believe that you will find a better Christian education in the area. If you want someone to fix your problem child, this may not be for you, but if you want a decent, loving Christian education that will produce a college-ready student, GCA is the place.
My child has been at a top rated public school - when she came to GCA she was behind and needed help and encouragement to catch up. She had a wonderful teacher. Greenwood Christian Academy is the best kept secret in the area! I wouldn't have my child anywhere else!
GCA is a phenomenal Christian school. All three of my children are enrolled there and I would not have them anywhere else. The school has a family atmosphere, along with very loving Christian teachers who nurture these students everyday. The academics are strong and challenging. Chapel is held every week, prayer is everyday, as well as biblical teachings. Christ lives in the hearts of these students and teachers. Try finding that at a public school. Those on this board who have criticized this school are the few that cause problems and want to make their own rules. They are in every crowd. Things were not handled the way they wanted it handled so it benefited them. I guarantee the situation was handled to benefit the whole student body. Good always prevails over evil. GCA is a wonderful school and I would recommend it to anyone.
There is a family atmosphere at our school. My children are very happy here, and we are pleased with the teachers. We appreciate how the teachers apply the Bible to everday living.
The school does not follow their own handbook. My children came home every day sad and complained about students getting away with infractions and my children were scolded for reporting the matter. They are now in public school and see more Christian conduct in the students there. They were left confused and puzzled on what true christians look like based on the experiances they had at this school. The admin would promis to handle the matter but not follow up.
My daughter has been to two other Christian schools and two public schools. Our children are now at Greenwood Christian Academy. I firmly believe, through meeting and getting to know the teachers and other staff, that this school is committed to giving my child a Christian education based on the Bible. The staff pray together every morning and there is prayer in the classrooms. My children feel cared for and safe. The academic programs are actually a bit ahead of the public school we came from but the teacher has been supportive in bringing my child up to speed. The school is organized, communications are timely, and my children enjoy school. All of these comments that you read on this site are subjective and based on different experiences. Request a tour, have your child shadow and develop your own opinion. My husband and I are very pleased.
The teachers at this school are wonderful; however, if you ask about specific teachings or beliefs, the administration almost seems to dance around the questions and acts like they are not important. They are also vague at answering how they deal with teaching specific topics that are important to most Christian parents. If this is important to you, you may want more info than they are willing (or able) to give.
I am a former student and I do not recommend this school to students who wish to be in a all Christian environment or wanting a sports scholarship.
