this is NOT a good school. I am a student there and i hate it. We have atleast 5 or more cops patrolling the school. There are many fights and now we have a racial war going on. Sounds like a great school right...the teachers dont teach anything and if they do they dont explain it. The rules are very dumb. This school might as well get uniforms because they cant make up their mind about appreal rules. Dont send your kid here.

when my oldest daughter was there it was excellent, she grad 2001. the principal was reasonable, the Music and Theater departments well well attended and supported, football was secondary. she was president of Pantherettes the very first year they went to State and won it. after making up all of their dances and music themselves. now their awards are behind an ice cream machine in the field house. when my youngest daughter grad(well actually she didnt get to graduate, because even though she had completed all of the requirements for a diploma from special education , she was the only person in her whole class to not get one), the principal that took over in 2005 has no use for anyone in special education, she is only interested in those who are college material,.football and test scores are all she cares about. the Music and Drama departments are underfunded, underattended and very underrespected for thier contribution to both school and the community. the teachers are all overworked, underpaid and underappreciated.

I graduated from Griffith and the years I spent there are years I would rather forget. I saw the introduction of Police officers patrolling the hallways like that really was going to stop fighting. The Guidance department was ill equipped to deal with harassment of any kind. I was harassed by several class members and sending them to the guidance office was a joke. The assistant principal my senior year was no good either he threatened me and the person that I was having a problem with with not graduating if we showed up in his office the rest of the year. The school system is a joke. Class time tends to be social hour instead of the students actually trying to learn and be prepared for college.

This school lacks caring. They do not get to know the students in a personal way. The curriculum is watered down. For example, instead of making students read classic novels, they watch the movie of the classics. Very few teachers follow a syllabus and or the textbook. (Especially in English and Science). My child gets a lot of worksheets. .

We came as a transfer from another city & school system 2yrs ago and I have to say the transition was GREAT, the most helpful and friendly school system we have ever been involved with. I like the way everything is handled and my son has improved alot socially, I highly recommend Griffith and its schools!5 STARS.

The High School has been a major disappointment. The math department is very weak. When graduates take entrance exams, they are quite surprised at what they have not been taught. I have had three children graduate in the past six years. All are above average students, and all have said that they were not where they should have been academically. The support of the band has been non existent to date. There are high hopes that the new principal will bring new life and support to the program. As far as everyone being treated equally, no way. Athletic 'stars' somehow escape a great deal of detection. This school needs to join this century and get on track.

I think there are a few problems at this school. Having cops in the school makes me nervous. Kids need a solid education and some of the teachers, this is the most important thing. Some it seems to be a social calling. I wish there were a few less problems and more student, teacher involvement. These kids need to be ready for school and I think a large majority aren't getting it especially when there is no encouragement from home. Somethings come from our homes, a lot is environment in school and if kids are worried more about who is passing what to whom in school and intimidation and things, they aren't going to be quality producers. We need to focus on getting these kids shaped up to be college material so they can succeed.
