They did not challenge my son.

This school was a doing fine for the first part of the school year on into the spring, until they decided to take the Music and Arts program out and replace it with a Theatrical program. The Art teacher and the Music teacher where so good that we had told many other people about the good things they were doing at the school. We attended the spring musical and we were told that it was the best thing that they have seen in a long time that happened at the school. With a little more time they may have changed the way the children thought about other classes and the art program and music program could have helped raise the overall enthusiasm and scores of the young people attending the school.

At a school with a higher rating, it's more likely that the school's culture celebrates hard work and learning, students treat their peers and teachers with respect and class lessons reinforce character strengths such as kindness and tolerance. A school with a lower rating may have a weaker learning environment or allow disrespectful behavior.


Promoting high academic expectations for all students.

This rating sheds light on the academic expectations that teachers have for students. At a school with a higher rating, educators are more likely to stress academic success, ask kids to work hard and expect kids to be college-bound.
