This school is the worst school I have seen in a very long time. my son is a first grader and he was failing and no one took the time to reach out to me until the end of the second semester by sending me a report card. I feel that his teacher did not care for his learning. My son has ADHD and I do not want any special treatment but they never helped him and all they wanted was to have him under meds and that would not happen with me. I hate this school.

Listen maybe last year 2008 this school was like that they yelled at the students and everything. My kids hated being told to rush for lunch and to 'shut up' but now!!1 under Joyce Buntin wow the love and respect and kindness is back! the cafeteria workers dont rush my kids to eat or yell at them and you dont see the unhappiness of the students like last year.. Joyce Buntin is wonderful!! and we should all be very grateful that someone of her caliber is running this school now all we have to get is playground equipment and a coach that wants team sports and to be competitive! i drive my kids 25 minutes to go to school there only because of Joyce Buntin !! hooray to this great principal! This school is horrible!! I leave a block from the school and refuse to send my daughter!! They have no sense of direction or communication. My daughter was bullied with the awareness of the Principal and teacher...Nothing was done about it. I will pay whatever before I send my child back to this school.

I just moved into this school dist. I did not want to put my son in ips schools, but as a single mom i could no longer aford the tuition at St. Michaels Catholic School. This school was exactly what a i pictured it to be. This school has no direction, the children just seem to run all around the school at the end of the day, and in the morring. There seems to be no displiyne in this school what so ever! my child will not be going to this school nexy year. I will work 2 jobs to keep him out of school 61!!!!

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Indiana used the Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress-Plus (ISTEP+) assessment to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English/language arts and math, grades 4 and 6 in science, and in grades 5 and 7 in social studies. The ISTEP+ is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Indiana. The goal is for all students to score at the passing level on the test.

In addition, high schools were graded on four-year (on-time) graduation rates and college and career readiness indicators including Advanced Placment exam results and industry certification exam results.

average

Our rating (from 1 to 10) reflects a school's overall performance. The higher the rating, the more likely the school will prepare your child for the future, so choose an above-average school (8-10) if possible. For average schools (4-7), do careful research and look for evidence that the school has high-quality programs. For below-average schools (1-3), take caution; a low-performing school may not provide the instruction or environment your child needs to learn, and you may need to supplement classroom lessons at home.

Academic rating

The academic rating is made up of equally-weighted parts: students' test scores, their academic growth (for elementary and middle schools) and their readiness for college (for high schools). The graphs below compare this school's results in each area to other schools in the city and state. Growth and college readiness ratings are coming soon, pending publication of 2012 data.
