We wish we had discovered MGA a few years ago. After trying another montessori for a year and then a traditional "academic" day care for 2 years, we switched to MGA when our daughter had just turned 4. She was ready for pre-reading and numbers and the old day care had a one-size-fits-all mentality that believed no real learning takes place until kindergarden. At MGA, every child is encouraged to learn at their own pace and students receive individual attention daily. Students are taught organizational skills and self-motivation is rewarded. These early years are so important. Why choose a day care when you can have a school like this for a similar price? Our daughter is almost 5 and already reading. She is challenged and encouraged every day through the Montessori method. The MGA teachers and assistants are very talented. This is more than a job for them - it is a calling. And this attitude shines through in the care they give the children.

One of the best schools in the city! Instruction is individualized for each child. The hands-on, task based curriculum keeps my daughter engaged. She is learning so much and she loves going to school. It id really special when your six year old can read fluently, and not only add and subtract but also multiply and tell you about the Big Bang. In addition to academic work, there is a wonderful sense of community at the school.

My son is almost 2 and is SO excited to go to school every morning to see "Tosh" and "Bit" - Ms. Tosha and Ms. Elizabeth! He has learned so much independence and is SO compassionate! I could not have taught him all this on my own. Thanks MGA!

My daughter attends this school and has for the last 6 months. It was the best decision we have made for her. MGA has become family and realize that children cannot be taught in "boxes." Fingers crossed that the education level will expand to 6th grade by the time my daughter gets there!! Parent involvement, teacher involvement, and administration's open door policy. MGA is the school my 5 year old wakes up excited to get to every morning!

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

Our rating (from 1 to 10) reflects a school's overall performance. The higher the rating, the more likely the school will prepare your child for the future, so choose an above-average school (8-10) if possible. For average schools (4-7), do careful research and look for evidence that the school has high-quality programs. For below-average schools (1-3), take caution; a low-performing school may not provide the instruction or environment your child needs to learn, and you may need to supplement classroom lessons at home.

Academic rating

The academic rating is made up of equally-weighted parts: students' test scores, their academic growth (for elementary and middle schools) and their readiness for college (for high schools). Unfortunately, this school doesn't have sufficient data to generate an academic rating.

Climate ratings

Climate rating for this school is not yet available.

Oops! We currently do not have any student information for this school. We rely on the state Department of Education, the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), and in some cases school administrators such as registrars and principals for this data.

More from this school
  • Serving toddlers, preschoolers, kindergartners, and elementary grades 1st-4th, the Montessori Garden Academy builds children's self-confidence and nurtures their natural curiosity. It's different from traditional child care and education because children "learn by doing" to achieve a sense of pride and independence. Rather than a "cookie cutter" approach, MGA’s caring teachers and individualized attention enable each child to reach his or her highest potential.
