My daughter is in the 3rd grade her and she will NOT be returning to this school or any other ips school. The staff is the most rude and disrespectful i have ever had to deal with. The teacher (Mrs. Oliphant) is an absolute disgrace to all teachers. She has bullied my daughter the whole school year and have belittled her to the point to where her self esteem has lowered. She nicknamed my daughter the "walk of shame" cause she was not doing as good as some of the others. I have talked with the principal and the school board, which did absolutely no good. That school and the staff is one big joke and disgrace to all other teachers and schools.

This school has no diversity amoungst teaching staff. The Principle, front office staff, and teachers are biased and rude. I was glad to take my daughter out of this school and though I have to travel a great distance to her new school, the way she has blossomed and accelerated are well worth it. She left the 5th grade having been taught very little.

My children are returning to this school after attending a charter school. The first time I enter the building I was blown away, it was so different, so quiet, so orderly compared to my childrens old school. So far I have been seeing good results from my children. I am so glad I changed schools. On a scale of 1 to 10 my children say this school is a 8.5 compared to their old school.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Indiana used the Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress-Plus (ISTEP+) assessment to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English/language arts and math, grades 4 and 6 in science, and in grades 5 and 7 in social studies. The ISTEP+ is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Indiana. The goal is for all students to score at the passing level on the test.

Our rating (from 1 to 10) reflects a school's overall performance. The higher the rating, the more likely the school will prepare your child for the future, so choose an above-average school (8-10) if possible. For average schools (4-7), do careful research and look for evidence that the school has high-quality programs. For below-average schools (1-3), take caution; a low-performing school may not provide the instruction or environment your child needs to learn, and you may need to supplement classroom lessons at home.

Academic rating

The academic rating is made up of equally-weighted parts: students' test scores, their academic growth (for elementary and middle schools) and their readiness for college (for high schools). The graphs below compare this school's results in each area to other schools in the city and state. Growth and college readiness ratings are coming soon, pending publication of 2012 data.
