My Granddaughter just started in Kindergarten, the school staff seemed to be ready and excited.

Teachers encourage children to want to learn.

Posted September 11, 2008

My child is not learning, just being baby sat. Teacher seems unconcerned, doesn't know my childs name even though i have told her several times. My child who is very interested in learning says that if she raises her hand for help in class she is told to put it down and keep it zipped as in no talking. Teacher in the ips system have to be held accountable. Underpay is no excuse for poor work, they signed up for the job, went to school for the job, they should take pride in the job. If a parent is not doing what is need to be done the authorities are contacted, shouldn't the same be done for teachers

My son went to this school for two years. In first grade he had a total of 5 different teachers by the time the year was over. He was not challenged, his was not prepared for second grade and the classroom was like a zoo most of the year. Concerns were addressed with the principal with no change. We are looking into private school this year.

My childs teacher seemed unprepared for classroom instruction. Constant repitative work, did not challenge my child at all. Adressed issued with principle but no change. Moving my child to private school next year. I believe that he needs to be engaged not taught to memorize. Look elsewhere.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Indiana used the Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress-Plus (ISTEP+) assessment to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English language arts and math, grades 4 and 6 in science, and in grades 5 and 7 in social studies. The ISTEP+ is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Indiana. The goal is for all students to score at the passing level on the test.

About the tests

Indiana uses the A through F School Grading System to assess the overall performance of a school. For the 2011-2012 school year, schools were graded based on performance and participation levels in state standardized tests and student growth using the Indiana Growth Model. In addition, high schools were graded on four-year (on-time) graduation rates and college and career readiness indicators including Advanced Placment exam results and industry certification exam results.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
